FEATURED Andre 3000 Responds To Lil Wayne's 'Rapping Over 40' Comments

test
I hate to keep using Nas as an example but while he did experiment with a few different flows to match the beat, it was still Nas to his core.

Not illmatic but definitely post life is good

Hell,3ks flow or whatever on players anthem is perfect. I would even take his flow from "benz friends"

I'm not trying to not validate his feelings but he definitely putting a lot of pressure on himself to hit home runs every time he steps up to bat instead of just hitting singles to get his form and technique together while he studies the pitcher to find the patterns and tendencies

TL;Dr

Put music out. It will come to him imo

But that’s Nas tho

Andre 3K is a true artist and purist.

His objection has never been about being afraid to do it or his lack of talent.

He's been not doing it because he just don't think it's cool.

Basically, he's saying, "There are new styles of Hip Hop that fit the spirit of youth that I once identified with. It's not for me to keep rapping to satisfy a market demand for my verses."

When Dre says I don't think anyone wants to hear my verses, he's not talking about his fans, he's talking about young people that shapes the sounds and images of Hip Hop today.

A real artist makes art for future generations to mimic. They don't do it to satisfy the present audience.

The 14 year olds that grew up mixtape Future, are 24 now thinking, "Wait this nigga 30 plus, why he still rapping about this?"

LL Cool J doing the old nigga Hip Hop video with the black and white video and leather jacket and leather pants to satisfy his fans isn't artistry.

The vast majority of Future's fan base are in their 20s and 30s. LL been consistently selling out shows still with Rock The Bells. The market for older rappers exists because their fans are still there. And unless you saying people in their 20s 30s won't be here 10 years from now older rappers can still make music for future generations because young people will eventually grow older and wanna hear shit that relates to them.

Based on what he's said...he wants to. If not then he wouldn't say he still listens to beats people send him to rap on or even rap at all on the few features he does do.

There would be atleast 1 solo album made by dude if that was the case

He ain’t feeling it, so even though he’s capable, he’s not doing it.

I am saying the idea of an older rapper and older Hip Hop fans itself is valid only because market logic.

I always said this, the only reason Hip Hop took over Rock as the dominant music of the youth is because young rapper and fans correctly identified rapping over a certain age is lame.

They correctly identified rapping about shit you don't remotely live is lame.

Then here come capitalist and market forces that justifies a motherfucker being 40 plus, rapping.

A CO literally taking a real kingpin's name and rapping about selling bricks across the Atlantic.

"Well he raps good."

It's obvious that Black Gen Xers got the same syndrome that White Boomers have. They don't wanna grow up and use wholly rely on the market to satisfy cultural cravings. They culturally peaked when Hip Hop went mainstream and don't got shit else to turn too, so they gonna suck the blood out of youth movements.

You're talking more about Millinials with the Peter Pan syndrome. And based on your logic no musician should be making music past a certain age because the youth dominates all that shit regardless of genre.

You don't stop living life after 40. So saying that somebody shouldn't rap about their life as it is just because they're 40 sounds stupid. And as rappers keep getting older you're going to get more rappers still making music later into their lives.

Not really. If you listen to the multiple times he's said it it's not that he don't want to rap...he's doubtful he can do it in a way that would still be to the level he wants it to be. The want is still there. He just doubts his ability.
