This thread is NOT what you may think about lil Yatchy rapping talents or voice. Me personally, I used to hate the nigga. Imo his Minnesota song to this day is one the worst songs I ever heard and I still think it haven't aged well.
However, Lil Boat maturity and and perspective of hip hop/music in general has. Not sure if you guys have seen this podcast (why would y'all if y'all don't like him lol) but he explains to J Cole why as a young mumble rapper why he hated lyrical substance rappers and how over time he realized the importance of studying the greats.
He became focused on indulging in ALL forms of hip hop, from the ones you guys love, to the younger styles you may hate. He evens make acid music.
From an Hip hop perspective he is important because although he maybe the new age silk the shocker, he is a important glue to bind all kinds of different styles together. From West coast songs
To alchemist no drums/new boom bap type songs
To Rage Playboy Carti/Yeat music underground trap music
To 90s Southern rap
To cloud trap fusion
The point is it's okay if you guys didn't last no longer than 30 seconds for each video, the fact that a mainstream young artist is willing to show his peers the importance to diversity your sound and learn the history of hip hop is dope AF to me.
It may also inspire some other talents who may be more bar gifted dabble in other sounds, for example like how Earl Sweatshirt and MIKE getting out of their comfort zone and doing Flint/Detroit style rap
.
Back in the 90s it was dope when artists would jump in different hip hop genres like 2 Short and Jay Z
Or Wu tang and OutKast
The point is most youngins and old heads are steadily beefing and pointing out each other differences. What folks like Yatchy is doing can help push Hip Hop to a dope place if artists get out of their comfort zone and don't be afraid to fail.
