Why I think Lil Yachty current run is important for young and old heads

This thread is NOT what you may think about lil Yatchy rapping talents or voice. Me personally, I used to hate the nigga. Imo his Minnesota song to this day is one the worst songs I ever heard and I still think it haven't aged well.

However, Lil Boat maturity and and perspective of hip hop/music in general has. Not sure if you guys have seen this podcast (why would y'all if y'all don't like him lol) but he explains to J Cole why as a young mumble rapper why he hated lyrical substance rappers and how over time he realized the importance of studying the greats.

He became focused on indulging in ALL forms of hip hop, from the ones you guys love, to the younger styles you may hate. He evens make acid music.

From an Hip hop perspective he is important because although he maybe the new age silk the shocker, he is a important glue to bind all kinds of different styles together. From West coast songs

To alchemist no drums/new boom bap type songs

To Rage Playboy Carti/Yeat music underground trap music

To 90s Southern rap

To cloud trap fusion

The point is it's okay if you guys didn't last no longer than 30 seconds for each video, the fact that a mainstream young artist is willing to show his peers the importance to diversity your sound and learn the history of hip hop is dope AF to me.

It may also inspire some other talents who may be more bar gifted dabble in other sounds, for example like how Earl Sweatshirt and MIKE getting out of their comfort zone and doing Flint/Detroit style rap

.

Back in the 90s it was dope when artists would jump in different hip hop genres like 2 Short and Jay Z

Or Wu tang and OutKast

The point is most youngins and old heads are steadily beefing and pointing out each other differences. What folks like Yatchy is doing can help push Hip Hop to a dope place if artists get out of their comfort zone and don't be afraid to fail.

Lil Yatchy is basically what happens when a Hip Hop superfan becomes a rapper.

He'll never be a good rapper but he's a great ambassador for the genre because he'll never be a good rapper.

This seems like an interesting thread. And I with I could participate but I quite literally have never heard a single Yachty record ever, outside of Secret Recipe. And I've only heard that verse one time.

From what I've seen in clips of interviews or whatever, seems like a cool kid. And I absolutely loved the Yachty bar in Euphoria; it might be my favorite 2 bars in the entire beef.

And he's funny looking. Random, I know. But yeah, that's one peculiar looking nigga.

Oh and his walkout at whatever festival was epic and really showed how skilled he is at building anticipation and playing to his crowd.

That's all I got I think.

Nah it’s a very good thread

I found it funny though because I know nobody gonna give af because they are 40 and as soon as they read yachty they wrote the thread off which makes me feel bad

Good job
You keep pushing the 40 yr thing like it matters what age you are to have the opinion that yachty is tra.... He's not for everyone

It's clear as day he has some level of talent in terms of conceptualizing a record but rap would not miss any little influence he has garnered if he stopped making music this afternoon

You in one thread shitting on Nas who has reinvented himself over the past five years while championing this tra.... Artist who has a very niche audience

Tl;Dr just cause Drake outsources some songs to him doesn't mean this "run" is significant

You spelled dude's name wrong in the thread title
Thanks man I usually spell his name wrong

Thanks man. One of my old passions used to be hip hop journalism but the industry and people here kinda made that shit dry out lol. But idk man it's important for artists to stay dangerous, that's why I didn't clown Westside Gunn when he was trap beats. Shit was funny as hell though but I get it.

I think you missing the point of this thread fam.

Interesting, hes not as bad as I remember him, sounds like growth though alot of the beats, instruments and featured artists seem to do alot of the heavy lifting in the songs...
This is actually amazing to see man. Appreciate you for commenting this because I thought I was the only one that was gonna mention and see that here.

He still is not a good rapper, but you can definitely see what studying hip hop greats has done for him and his confidence.
It's important for other youngins and older rappers to see this as well because I think this can spark some good change with creatives and as a community as a whole.

Too much ignorance and closedmindess from both age groups.
