90% of the drama is due to Alicent and Rhaenyra when you break it down. Hell, there would be peace like Viserys had setup before his death, but Alicent fucked it all up by mishearing

They missed an opportunity to build some mastery and suspense though. They should have let one of the twins live so the audience would be wondering which actually survived.

Might have even been better if Rhaenyra ordered the death of whoever survived out of an abundance of caution. But I guess they could have just asked him some questions only her guy would know and figured it out too.
