I dont think I'll ever get a full EV car... I would worry that sh!t would burn my house down in the middle of the night whilst charging... Or thing not starting in an emergency because the weather is too cold...

I just explained to my middle daughter how the batteries in these EV's are based on the same tech that batteries in cellphones are based on, just on a larger scale. I then went on to point out how we've all seen cellphone batteries not only inflate/bubble up, but have seen accounts of them exploding as well and I'm like "the typical EV... That battery is directly under the floor of the car, imagine a battery malfunction at that level, especially an explosion". Plus, putting out that fire ain't exactly easy.
Theyre not even that eco friendly are they??? Ive not looked into really but to actually manufacture all these batteries dont they have to mine and extract all the minerals and resources from the earth??? Which not only damages the environment itself but all the digging and machinery no doubt uses tons of carbon emissions and I would guess cheap labour too... Then you have ship and transport the batteries around the world on ships, lorries and planes...
Would be better if we could find a sustainable/synthetic fuel imo
All the tech in new cars (and EVs are usually the most techy) are detrimental to the environment too, just like streaming and mining crypto etc... Im not an eco warrior but from would happy to just sat nav and and a CD player in my car... I hate that my car doesnt have a CD player anymore!!!
edit: also how long do batteries even last??? Its not for atleast 10years doesnt seem that eco friendly, especially if the batteries end up in landfills etc

Electric cars are actually horrible for the environment. From what I've read, it takes nearly 2700 gallons of diesel to move the 250 tons (or 500000 lbs) of earth for the raw materials to make just one battery. With these being all electric, there's also all of the raw materials needed to produce all of the processors and other electronic components needed to make them function, including the whole manufacturing process from raw mineral to finished product, plus charging them also requires fossil fuels unless we completely switch to wind, solar, and/or nuclear power (each of which has it's own environmental damage to account for). Some of the Supercharging stations also have batteries, so you have to factor everything it takes to build:
^^^ Those things are FAR larger than the battery in a Tesla, so figure that there will be way more damage to the environment just to get enought raw materials to build them.
We ain't even got to the human cost yet.

Yeah this is it man, its basically greenwashing for corporations to get rich and have people feel feel like theyre doing something for the environment...
I dont want an EV charging anywhere near my house, I would be checking the sh!t aint cooking every 2mins and the UK is nowhere near as prepped as USA for EV charging, chances are if youre going on a trip you'll be panicking about finding a charging point and not enjoying the journey...
I was watching something on nuclear energy last year and seems its actually pretty good option, when I first heard of nuclear I was like 'fck that you not seen Chernobyl' but it seems a really safe and clean option...
Would love someone to find a hydrogen or synthetic fuel but they will prolly 'shoot themselves in the head twice' soon out soon as they announce theyve patented the technology...

Cali put a law in place that all new car sales starting in 2035 have to be electric cars. Trucks even sooner if I remember right.
Cali doing that will have the rest of the states doing that too.
Europe also put a similar law in place by 2030 I think.
Cali also said by 2030 50% of all new car sales must be electric.
Car companies aint gonna make and market gas cars for only a handful states, so even if you live in a state that doesnt have this law, itll be too bad.
That said, technology around this is getting better. Toyota said theyll have cars going 600 miles on a charge by 2026. 900+ miles by 2029.
New EVs for the most part charge in less than 20 mins if you get the 3k home chargers. Alot of states give you that back as a tax rebate now.
Sweden is working on technology for roads that charge your battery as you drive on them. Shit gon be fire.
I say all that to say buying an electric car in 2024 aint the best idea.
By 2030 though, electric > gas it seems.

One that is managed good. Not one that only has some car companies, but one that has a mixture of established and new brands, a mix of domestic vs internation brands, and also has companies that make batteries, and mine lithium.
Buy that shit, hold it long long term. It dont matter if EVs are taking a hit short term right now.

Because, while the weed industry is not the same as electric cars, the wave of states following suit didn't happen imo as quickly as people thought.
I don't know if one state can influence another state in a 6 year time frame
I am sure states are watching CA. But idk , 10 years maybe that's the reality , but I am not sold on electric cars.

Gas cars gon be phased out.
This doesnt mean come 2035 they gon come and take your gas car. You can still own a gas car, and buy used gas cars forever, they just not gonna sell you a new gas car.
And Cali passes laws that influences all the other states because how big its population and economy is. Take the red coloring law they passed recently. Cali passes a law that foods cant have that chemical, and skittles changed their ingredients over night.
Have NY join Cali, plus some smaller states like NJ, and that a 100 million people you cant sell new gas cars too. Plus the 300+ million in europe. Im sure China will join in too. China now has the biggest electric car company in the world.
Thatll be enough for Ford to say we cant be profitable marketting gas cars to a 100 million people and electric to another 100. They'll just say fuck gas.
This isnt like weed. It would be like weed if there was a law where weed had to replace tobaco.
Im on the same page as you as far as not being bought on electric yet.
But by 2030, that will change if the tech gets as good as advertised.

I am wondering while it's not mainstream. Alot of people are aware of how the raw materials for these cars are sourced, and while cellphones used the same raw materials and we still use those.
I do think a call to action on the mining for cobalt is coming
