Learning About You

Meeks

The One with the Pretty Eyes.
Has anything led you to researching your family and/or building your family tree?

Upon building it, did you discover anything different than what you were told about your family line growing up?

I was told my great grandma and so on were Italian only to research my family the past few months and discovered my 6th, 7th and 8th great grands on my maternal side with my grandmother were born and some raised in Germany.

I don't know a damn thing about my dad's family.

My grandparents died some time in the 60s and I haven't met anyone from his side of the family. They stayed in Ireland and due to extreme brokenness, no one ever really left.

My dad passed in 09 and some years later I did an ancestry test through Family Tree DNA. My dad said his family had never left Ireland and he really wasn't playing because we can trace our blood line back to almost BC times. Turns out we're related to the king (Niall of the Nine Hostages) who took St. Patrick hostage.

That is awesome! I just got my DNA results back from Ancestry last night while at work and I feel it just confirmed some of my findings with my 6th+ great grands being German. I’ve also learned the many different surnames down my family line. I’ll be buying my grandparents and my mother the test for Christmas because I want to know more while they’re still alive. I work for Ancestry so it’s interesting.

Started a Tree on Ancestry n all that.. Could only go back so far after talking with some of the elders. Got as far back as like 1840 or so.

Interestingly enough.. a distant cousin ended up reaching out on Ancestry and we began communicating and was able to help each other fill in some blanks on our respective trees.

If you have an immediate male family member (pops, brother, uncle) get them to take one too. As men hold both sets of chromesomes we can test for both maternal and paternal bloodlines

I started a tree been working on it little by little...aint find nothing groundbreaking yet but time will come!

I do wanna take one of those swab test,I got hella family that i dont even know NYC, Florida, GA,NC, 'Sip, Cali, Texas,PA,CT,VA who knows where else.

My grandfather! I think I’m gonna get his test before everyone else’s because he’s older than them and more important overall to me lmao. He was taught that my great grandmother was Native, he looks like he is and so did she. We shall see though.

Most of the Native stories arent true, usually just a cover up being the slave masters child. But you never know.

You never know.
I had some people call in about their dna matches and beside it I’d see that they were Native American, tripped me out to actually see it.

The conspiracy theorist in me NH won't let me take a DNA test. I don't trust them and I know they're up to something so I'll never do that.

I do know lot about my mom side of the family though. Some historian wrote about about that side of my family because my great grandma was a descendant of white dude that was popular in the 1800's. He interviewed the family learned a lot about the cracka
