2026 NBA Offseason Thread

How can you prove that just from them giving him the minimum and then later on giving him a 4 year deal?

It could be just the bucks gave him the minimum and he accepted

Then this year they offered him a larger deal than in the past and he accepted

Everybody knows it’s cap circumvention but it’s not nefarious and you can’t prove it forreal

You're right as far as they probably won't be able find the actual smoking gun to connect everything and this is the first time its happened but its the most absurd and egregious case

I shouldn't have to explain why the league would want to deter this from happening and why it's such a slippery slope

Literally the same thing Joe Smith and the Wolves did....the exact same thing

I get it

It would set a bad precedent but idk how you can punish a team for this

If I say hey I’ll give you $3 mil a year but 2 years from now I’ll give you $64 mil and the player says okay cool

How can you really say you can’t do that?

Contracts are between the team and player

Hey listen I wouldn’t be mad at it if they get punished I just don’t see how they can produce anything for them to get punished

But we’ll see

Kawhi the bigger fish

Because when players, agents and executives sign a contract it has statement that says that under penalty of perjury there are no agreements outside of whats outlined in this contract

The whole point is to keep teams from cheating, paying guys under the table and keeping the market intact

Yeah but players get paid under the table or there’s a handshake agreement regarding salaries all the time

Why is this one getting press? (I know why but think outside of that because that’s a bit more nuanced)

That’s typical money for a guy like GTJ just not off of last season specifically

But what if the bucks think GTJ will have a great couple of years in the post Giannis era and they want to pay him for that?

How can you say that’s immoral?

Shouldn't be illegal but it is similar to the joe smith/wolves situation so maybe there's a rule against it. Guess we'll see how it shakes out. Seems like smart business to me but 🤷🏿‍♂️

Its funny tho that when niggas take the short there's no investigation only when you presume a player is overpaid.

What do you mean maybe theres a rule a against it lol? There's a clear and defined rules

You dont think it should be illegal for teams to have an agreed upon contract but also have a deal outside of the parameters of that contract in order for the team to have more access to money for team building that they otherwise wouldnt have?

If a team can only afford the minimum than they should be getting minimum players

Precious Achiuwa made 2.6 mil last year

Now he’s back on 2 years/11 mil

Cap circumvention!????

You know how many guards on The Bucks right now that are better than GTJ?

Rollins
Kasparas
Levert
Porter Jr
Burries
Herro

Trent wasnt even in the rotation for most of the year and he sacked

Bringing up Precious is disingenuous and being obtuse but I know you're trolling

Precious was actually good for Sacramento and helped them last season

So between Dame and Trent Jr thats like 37 mil in dead money the next 4 years for Milwaukee :/

And people keep saying well why is it a big deal with GTJ?

Because its that absurd and blatant thats why

Other deals that get done you can at least make case or say its market related

can you prove that the kings didn’t circumvent the cap with precious?

If the bucks wanna sign GTJ to that deal despite all those guards, they are free to do so

You can’t penalize them

What if they want to move Herro, Porter, bum ass levert during the year and don’t want Kasparas or Burries to start?

You can’t prove their intentions

lol listen I know they are circumventing the cap but I’m playing devil’s advocate to show that it’s something thats probably 90% impossible to prove
