are you fairly paid......

No. I make a pretty penny. I'll never complain.

But I also know the exact numerical value of the shit I build brings to the company.

They don't pay me even close to what I make for them.

Mfers.

My situation is weird. I was hired for a specific client in Baltimore. And for this client, the pay is perfect. But we lost the client, and now I gotta commute to DC in a few months. I don't think it's enough for that added travel... But at this moment I'm lucky to have a job. They could have easily said they don't have anything for me considering I just started in December.

They fucked up when they gave me my last raise and included me in an email that broke down the average salary for my position in DC. I'm underpaid and they know I'm aware of it which is why they're trying they're hardest to not let me leave right now. In a similar position that Cain described in that the role I'm gunning for is going to be worth this temporary position

I'm probably slightly underpaid and could make more money at another university, but there are also some advantages that I enjoy here:
- My position is 95% remote
- My manager and lead researchers are always looking out for me with opportunities to enhance my CV and learn new skills
- One of the lead researchers offered me a PhD position and I should be starting next year. This likely doesn't happen if I don't renew my contract and look for a higher paying position elsewhere

Also, it's very difficult to prove unless you gotta good ass lawyer, but they stay paying old white folks crazy money for the exact same job younger black folks do.
My job is a shining example.

So my new company .. They had the same old ass white dude doing the same job for the same client for 30+ years....

I don't know how much they were paying him, but they were quick as shit to match my demands for salary after he suddenly passed. The quickness they approved my request let's me knowi could have asked for more..... Even though this position pays roughly 40% more than my previous company.

Which leads me to believe that this job I'm doing right now, despite being paid more than I've made before in my adult life, I'm very sure it's some old white people doing the exact same job making twice what I make...and they been there for 20-30 years chilling

At my current company I'm underpaid but I knew that going in. I'm in the running for vice president of operations of the East coast division from Maine to Florida. So I purposely took a L for the W I know I'll be getting. Also if things go as planned with my partners with our company be quitting in 2yrs regardless

You still doing that other wire business or something still part time?

I was, my friend had a small MSP business that he started with one of his oworkers. They was provided anything IT related for small businesses. He knew I started my own cabling company running fiber into businesses. Guy I knew had a contract with a larger outfit and I told him what I was doing so he threw me some work.

Fast forward to my fiend and his MSP he said his partner was wanting to expand I jokingly said we should all start a company together. He likes the idea told a few other friends and they was with it. So we formed the company. Used some contacts got our feet in the some doors. Got two contracts so far small but it's a start
