OPINION The Wire - A Hindsight Discussion

Just started watching Season 2 again last night.

First time I've binge watched the show in years.

Now, I didn't start at season 1 like I normally did years back.........I started with season 2.

Watched the season premiere and half of the second episode, and it was pure comedy.

One thing I realized though, is that the first time I watched the Wire.........and saw Season 2........I'm starting to realize how much I hated it.

But the reason I hated it so much, was because I couldn't understand where the show was taking it at the time.

Like most people, I was wondering why they kept showing these dockworkers when the focus was supposed to be on what was going on in the streets with the Barksdale crew.

Looking back on it now, Season 2 is pivotal towards tying everything together.

Arguably one of the most important seasons of the show.

So watching it now, and already knowing what it's gonna lead to........it gives me a greater appreciation for that season.

The show wouldn't be the same without it.

It'll never be talked about the same way as Season 1, 3, or 4........but people who hated it should definitely give it a second look just to see it through a different lens.

I never hated on season 2, I could see the point of it being there to bring the whole landscape into view

but even knowing that and appreciating it, I really could give a fuck less about those bar scenes and that dock life shit. and Nicky acting like a bitch after Zig got locked up

Ziggy was hilarious.

Not too bright, but he was definitely funny.

Never really cared for dude before, but I think about that Druski skit whenever I hear one of these black brits who play american roles talk.

Dude was spot-on about how those actors move.

I don't think a lot of people know that the actor who plays McNulty is Australian either.

Didn't hit as hard as when I found out Stringer was a brit, but it was still shocking nonetheless.

Funny thing is, I couldn't imagine any other actor playing their roles.

Hate to admit that they were both a perfect fit.

I don't think any of the NY actors had Baltimore accents either.

The only ones who had an authentic Baltimore accent were Snoop, Prop Joe, Valchek, the white dude who worked with McNulty on the boat in Season 2..........and the white asst principal lady from Season 4.
