I think the reality is this. Is a fucked up song, but its fun and over the top ridiculous

There has been PLENTY of songs in hip hop that has had that same thing said about it.

Tbh I think Hip Hop would be boring af if India Arie ran it. Do I listen to India Arie? Yes.

My point is there is a time and place for everything. I put on hit em up when I wanna turn up or disrespect another dude seriously or jokingly.

I guess thats my point is that woman should get the same pass or grace as the toxic king Future.

Queen Latifah can run hip hop.

Lauryn hill can run rap and r&B now. Especially women rap.

Sugar Free a legend. And yeah as somebody who laughs hysterically at MJG starting off a verse saying "I keep a big ol nigga beater heater" I'd be a hypocrite to get up in arms over Spend It content wise.
 
I can't speak for her, or what was going on in her head, but it seems idia's reaction was maybe more or less "When does it ever end???". Lotta folks, young and old, been complaining about how today's rap is basically nothing more than serial killer/hooker slut hoe music. Shits been all over TikTok, IG, and elsewhere. So here comes this joint and its blowing up and my perception of this whole pushback against it is more like "Again with this shit??? Wasn't we JUST complaining about this???!!!".

But... we've had songs like this forever, and there's been complaints about such stuff forever but back then, and I've said this for over a decade, there was more balance; it wasn't all just serial killer/hooker slut hoe music and that's the difference.

I think the culture is ready to pivot away from serial killer/hooker slut hoe music primarily because the culture lacks the balance we used to have.

A decade ago people were also saying "There was more balance in the past". Its the never ending complaint. Everyone thinks there was "more balance in the past".
 
I don't know. I just listened to the song. It's not even that bad for this era. It's not as bad as some of those Whore-Hop songs that were popular a couple years ago.

All I'll say is that the Black community is under open attack from white trash racists up to the Federal government, and a common refrain is that Black people have toxic culture and its to blame for our problems not racism. It certainly doesn't help our case when shit like this become the foremost representation of our culture. It would be one thing if there was some balance, but where's the positive black hit to counter this garbage? Back in the day NWA was putting out garbage too, but at least there was a Public Enemy out at the same time balancing it.
 
The song catchy as hell.... its toxic yeah. But the industry is toxic and we got popular artists like Sexy Red... so nothing is going to change

Because there was. When was the last time you heard something afrocentric, positive, or uplifting on the radio? When was the last time you heard straight lyricism on some "Battle the unknown MC" shits? Maybe some silly shit like Redman, Biz, or Sir Mix A Lot made? How about some dance shit? Shit, niggas had a whole era of that in the mid 00's, where did that go?

Naw, it's murder death kill spin the block on the opps pussy eat ass suck dick scam he ain't got money shit on the radio now and aside from the odd Drake or Kendriock joint, that's really about it.

Think about this: The remix to BDP's "You Must Learn" hit #15 on the Hot Rap Singles chart. De La Soul's "Me Myself and I" was #1 on the Hot Rap Singles chart and peaked at #34 on the Hot 100 while Biz Markie's "Just A Friend" cracked the top 10 at #9 on the Hot 100 and #1 on the Hot Rap Singles chart. Hammer was #1 across the board with some of his shit, and that's with niggas clownin' him for being too commercial. PE had the #4 album in the country with Apocalypse 91...Enemy Strikes Black. Das EFX hit #1 on the Hot Rap Singles chart and #36 on the Hot 100 with "The Want EFX".

I could go on... But the real question is: When was the last time we had any sort of diversity in hip hop like that on the radio?

Most people want non thought provoking fun music, food, activities and just like kids "fun" is usually doing or saying some shit you dont supposed to be doing. Its American apple pie if you really wanna get deep about it.

I can't agree with this. I get where you're coming from and it would be nice if we all could think like that, but we really can't. This stuff is too influential nowadays. Yes, negative stuff was around when we were coming up too, but it wasn't impacting us the same. Little girls weren't looking up to Lil Kim in the same that some of these young chicks look up to the chicks you named. Like women were really spazzin out over Klay cheating on Megan because of how much they respect Megan. No one cared who Khia or Trina were getting cheated on by 20 years ago.
