Funny thing is most of us was hella young in 98 when he drop those two albums that year


But I see the vision. A lot of posters on here is going to be “well back in my day” and try and rewrite history and what’s going on now.

I LOVE DMX. He was my favorite rapper at a certain point. One of the last REAL originals. Absolutely no one before or after sounded like X.

But Drake is different, in terms of greatness. We know had the longer run. No need to debate that. As far as great music, Drake makes objectively great music. It’s not MY KIND of great music. But he makes great music. Always has. Prolly always will.

In terms of overall greatness, this is laughable to me. If there is anybody that would love the opposite to be true, it’s me. But it’s just not.

Different doesn't mean better. Everyone's greatness is different...but as you said DMX gave the game something never seen before or since in terms of sound. The impact of his albums on rap made more of an imprint than Drake despite the longer run. Drake is an extension of something we saw an evolution of and build up to in rap. DMX can never be replicated.

That's technically true. That's the music that tends to bring the strongest emotions and memories...but you don't get stuck there. My favorite rappers has definitely changed over the years.
