OUT NOW Drake - ICEMAN

Added to Calendar: 05-15-26

I mean as a black American I have actual blood and skin in the discourse so I don’t expect it to resonate with you as heavily as it does some of us below the border.

It’s not any one individual truth that’s the problem. It’s the pattern of behavior, associations, and discourse that highlights the issue I’m speaking to. We’re talking about a trajectory he’s been on for almost 8–10 years now, during one of the most important social and political junctures of our lifetime. It doesn’t serve us to ignore who he’s aligning himself with and allowing to latch onto him.

We say he’s the biggest in the world, right? What does that mean in the Lord’s year 2026? What are you doing with your platform? What message are you delivering with your influence?

If his upbringing and lived experience have brought him to this point, hats off to him. I may even continue enjoying some of the slaps (not smacks, Drake), but I refuse to stay quiet about the emptiness within the music and the persona.

I’m all for enjoying the tunes, I just don’t jack the gaslighting and manufactured narratives when we know this nigga has been lying with impunity for pretty much his entire time in the limelight.

[sidebar] it’s all love, fam. I’m glad we can dead the beef 🤜🏽 💥 🤛🏽
*Sighs*... this is my issue with some of yall...

You start your post proclaiming you're black AMERICAN and that it wouldn't resonate with me because im north of the border in canada then immediately go into the political climate and what message you think he should deliver concerning AMERICAN politics. Guess what... DRAKE IS NOT AMERICAN. Maybe that's why the music doesn't resonate with you and thats okay.

Im not understanding why you're protesting tho. Especially in here. What do you mean you won't stay quiet about the "emptiness in his music and persona" ? He doesn't owe you anything. The posters in here don't owe you anything. Why are you guys spamming us with this shit? It's not like drake is going to see this. Go post this shit in his dm. We're just trying to enjoy, review and critique the music.

If you not trying to do that... 🦶🏿🪨's

Respectfully.

They swear their favorite rappers are doing anything of substance

None of they are doing anything but getting money just like everybody else.

Nas, Hov, Drake and Dot are all the same.

A song here and there about the people that are paying them and accepting checks from and doing business deals

From Hov to Nas to Drake to Dot

All the same

I don't need drake to virtue signal. I just want good music. His music has never skewed towards politics or societal issues and I don't expect it to now, especially not American politics. He's not from there he's just popular there, so I don't understand why niggas are trying to make that a thing.

On one hand niggas screaming he not like us and in the other they're screaming why he not like us?

I can't. 🤦🏿

I doubt that.

I was questioning if he not like us, why the fuck he still get to operate and culture vulture in the space?

(For the record, he never did answer THOSE accusations from K-Dot)

Nobody on either side did cause its absurd. Should I expect Dave free to do a paternity test to prove he's not the father of Kendricks child? Where's drakes daughter? Should we find the child and do a mouth swab.

Like nigga...

“You put that jacket on anybody, you're funeral bound/But like the goal post, I'm out here just movin' around/They say conclusions were drawn, but I'm in super denial/What is a loss? I'll be damned if I'm losin' it now/I'm the golden goose, shakin' things up at Lucian's house/I'm in the battlefield really puttin' boots to the ground/A booster seat for yourselves and the lies that you tell/If Drake took out the AK, maybe he'd be in jail/Just based off the name that it spells”

Forgot about this. So he actually did answer to it.

After a week living with them, I’m comfortable placing the 3 in my personal tiers for projects post SFG.

Tier 1: Take Care, NWTS, IYRITL
Tier 2: Views, WATTBA
Tier 3: Iceman, TML, More Life, Scorpion, Her Loss, $$$4U
Tier 4: CLB, FATD, Honestly Nevermind, Habiti
Tier 5: Dark Lane, MOH

Kendrick Lamar stans and their misuse of "culture vulture" continues to be amusing. They really latched onto calling Drake that as a personality trait

I think the same people that don’t like Drake are the same ones that don’t like LeBron lol

A lot of overlapping lolololol

I actually think Iceman, specifically, is a really solid, well-put-together project. Far from bad but not great in anyway. I’d give it a strong 6.5 which is better than mid (which I also don’t view as an inherently negative term despite the modern music connotation). The beats are familiar, the lyrics are familiar, and the flows are familiar. The harmonizing is objectively bad. But it’s still his most cohesive project since Views.

There are tracks I especially enjoy:

  • Dust (the pocket he gets into on the second half is crazy
  • Whisper My Name
  • Shabang (despite some terrible lyrics)
  • Make Them Pay
  • National Treasures
Whisper My Name and National Treasures suffer from the same issue for me: the beat switches feel completely unnecessary, and ruing momentum. Though it’s a little more tolerable on the former.

My biggest gripe, though, is that for an album this big, there’s no standout track that gives you that feeling—the kind where you instantly know you’re listening to something special. Which is what I’m expecting if someone’s trying to get me to look past the red-pill shit, the ghostwriters, a lawsuit, all while trying to re-litigate the most decisive L in commercial battle rap history.

I actually have some real jnddpgh thoughts on the project overall but I’ve already dug deeper into it than the “that shit slap!” circle jerk some seem to be clamoring for.

Fam, I think you really might have a illness

Why are you in here and ACTIVELY searching people hating on music from an artist they and you dont like.

I just can’t wrap my brain around what you’re doing
Are you really turning this into some weird-ass TDS thing?

And HOW are yall not MAGA again?

Negroid, I’m here for the JOKES. And apparently, Aubrey’s writing, songs, and Glock has been supplying us with jokes in abundance….

Case in point:

Moral: calm down. If yall mans is 🌽 that’s on Y’ALL for hitching your horse to his wagon.

You’re misinterpreting what people are saying. Nobody’s asking Drake to make “I Can 2026.” People are saying that at your big age, maybe stop gaslighting the public, singing about women’s medicated cups tasting funny, while only acknowledging social issues to dismiss Black upliftment as “white guilt.” For the latter, #RapLikeStephenMiller bars in these days is nuts.

Idgaf what the Futures & Lil Baby’s of the world do. I’m strictly talking about the responsibility of claiming the throne. I’d feel differently about it in 2015, 2016, 2017. You and others take the importance of that spot, in these times for granted. And no offense, again but it’s because you have no skin it.
