Your Hindsight comment is correct though. I thought they gave up too much also, but the assets they got from the trade and the success of the T-Wolves with him being the anchor of the defense has proven that the trade wasn’t as bad as most thought and a win for Minnesota.
That team has been to back to back conference finals and consistently one of the best defenses in the league since he got there.
He was always going to be the anchor of their defense or any defense he was a part of. I don't think anyone thought trading for gobert was bad people thought the amount of draft capital they gave up to get him was bad. And it was.
If you know what you know now... would you go back in time and trade walker Kessler, Malik Beasley, keyonte George, will Riley and 2 unprotected firsts and a pick swap for gobert?
When you look at the players drafted with 2 picks still on the board id say I actually think worse of Minnesota giving up that draft capital today than I did when the trade happened.
Id rather have Kessler, George, Riley, 2 picks next to ant than gobert.
I don't think the juice was worth the squeeze at the end of the day. It just sped up the inevitable but imo it also shortened the window. Luckily for Minnesota Ant is him tho and that took the edge off.
And yeah they went to b2b conf finals but gobert has taken the most criticism in those appearances.
Again if they lost to the nuggets I don't believe we're even having this conversation. The conversation would most likely devolve back to gobert being overrated (which i repeatedly argued against ftr) like it has in the past.
