As far as musical biopics it was cool. Ray will probably always be the best in the genre. They glossed through so many key aspects of his life that would’ve been far more suited in another tv series but put it on HBO. The Jackson Family movie told this story so much better.

Also, it just seemed like a bunch of musical performances with some light drama sprinkled in-betweenwith the shit with Mike and Joe. Everyone else besides Mike and Joe were just props nobody else in the family had real dialogue. Especially the brothers.

I never knew which brother was which they never said oh yeah hey I’m Tito or I’m Jermaine. Never knew who was who. Nia Long as Kathryn had a few lines but she didn’t really stand out either.

But the performances were fun!

I don’t give a fuck about the brothers but if you gonna tell the full Michael Jackson story maybe they shouldn’t just be back ground characters. It was way to choppy and like I said glossed over too much like how much Jermaine staying at Motown after the other brothers left affected Mike. But I do want to say again it’s amazing in its recreation of the songs and how he approached making music. I wish the film spent more time exploring what made his mind tic. But whatever. I hope you like the movie.

I'm a always be bias when it comes to Michael. I still have The Making Of Thriller and Moonwalker on VHS. Shit I still have the Sega Genesis Moonwalker game. So in all honesty it's hard to be objective. My on call for work starts next week so I'll have to wait another week before I go to the theater and watch it again.

And let me be clear I mean yes this is the Michael movie not the Jackson 5 movie so yeah the other characters don’t matter as much but it’s like he barely interacted with his brothers which was weird given his close relationships with Randy and Marlon especially.

Peeped this last night with my wife.

I think Jaafar did well under the circumstances. He not as smooth as Mike dancing wise (nobody is), but again a solid performance overall. Colman Domingo did his thing as Joe Jackson. Really hated that nigga lol

Far as the movie itself, I feel like it wouldve been much better if they started somewhere right before Off the Wall dropped and took it up to maybe Bad. I felt it was too much Jackson 5 when we already have the definitive Jackson 5 story. Also the lack of Janet is noticeable especially once we get to Thriller era (understand it wasn’t their choice).

The conclusion I came to leaving the movie was that MJ is such a force of an artist that a 2.5 hour movie cannot do his career justice, even if it’s just half of his career. He needs a MJ level “Last Dance” kinda doc.
The music carries the movie for me. It’s just good to hear it. There are a few CGI moments in here that take me out of it lol.

6/10
After thinking about it dropping it to a 5 lol

Good choice to see it in Dolby Cinema

They glossed over a lot of things but they made sure to portray Joe as a POS father lol

Too many huge moments that they just didn't include but that's because it's a movie and not a tv show

I don't know if it was intended since they weren't going to bring up the controversies but they definitely put breadcrumbs to make excuses for them. Like they showed that he never grew up

I did think it was funny that they put in the Prince comment lol

One thing I didn't know was firing his dad over fax. That was funny if true. Also didn't know he had a damn python or whatever in his house

I liked the kind of behind the scenes of Thriller and Beat It

It was weird not seeing Janet
