I loved it but too much Joe Jackson slander, should of included The Wiz and We Are The World. I'll be watching it a few more times.

Peeped this last night with my wife.

I think Jaafar did well under the circumstances. He not as smooth as Mike dancing wise (nobody is), but again a solid performance overall. Colman Domingo did his thing as Joe Jackson. Really hated that nigga lol

Far as the movie itself, I feel like it wouldve been much better if they started somewhere right before Off the Wall dropped and took it up to maybe Bad. I felt it was too much Jackson 5 when we already have the definitive Jackson 5 story. Also the lack of Janet is noticeable especially once we get to Thriller era (understand it wasn’t their choice).

The conclusion I came to leaving the movie was that MJ is such a force of an artist that a 2.5 hour movie cannot do his career justice, even if it’s just half of his career. He needs a MJ level “Last Dance” kinda doc.
The music carries the movie for me. It’s just good to hear it. There are a few CGI moments in here that take me out of it lol.

6/10

As far as musical biopics it was cool. Ray will probably always be the best in the genre. They glossed through so many key aspects of his life that would’ve been far more suited in another tv series but put it on HBO. The Jackson Family movie told this story so much better.

Also, it just seemed like a bunch of musical performances with some light drama sprinkled in-betweenwith the shit with Mike and Joe. Everyone else besides Mike and Joe were just props nobody else in the family had real dialogue. Especially the brothers.

I never knew which brother was which they never said oh yeah hey I’m Tito or I’m Jermaine. Never knew who was who. Nia Long as Kathryn had a few lines but she didn’t really stand out either.

But the performances were fun!

Mike sending his lawyer to tell Joe he was going solo because he was too scared to do it himself was funny though.
