Has Social Media Ruined Battles In HipHop?

I've never wanted to meet Jay or get an autograph🤨

I did see him and Beyonce in concert a few years ago and it was a dope show

That's all I got for you b

And you've never screamed that loud ever in your life.

I don't think you've screamed that loud since....Grown ass man screaming

FOH killa.

Might as well eat a banana with no hands

Negativity bias is nothing new though. Hip hop is a sport and like in all sports people are more intrigued and tuned in when theres extra animosity involved

Thats why every story be it a novel film or series, shit even every other news article builds on conflict and tension, cause otherwise who cares. Thats just human nature

Look at those battles Joey Badass started last year, those shits came and went. Fuck all that friendly competition shit
Hip hop is not a sport

Are you the same nigga that was with me at Essence fest singing all the Ne-yo songs with your hand on your heart talking about "and it's all because of you"

Nah... Can't be

Battles have been ruined, i don’t see how anyone can say otherwise.

Imagine krs one and mc shan battling today, the music would have been overshadowed by all kinds of social media memes and antics and back and forth ig posts

That shit has nothing to do with the music and ppl treat the music as secondary. The main thing is coming off better of social media with memes and jokes.

How has that not ruined battles? It certainly hasn’t made em better.

Didn't one of them late 80s/early 90s MCs have to flee their recording studio via a side window when another rapper they was beefin wit sent goons there?

Not saying you wrong, just that crazy off the field nonsense has always been part of it. Master P & Pimp C etc. But social media has definitely made it worse, like everything else in life lol

You can’t personally attack somebody and just call it a rap battle/competition.

Why do yall do that

This is where a word can mean multiple of things. A battle means a conflict. It means a struggle or fight. Can be physical or non-physical. It can also be figurative. It can be a struggle to survive.

When two people clash, they are in a battle.
You can battle in court.
You can have a battle of wits or minds.
Your body can battle against a disease.
You can battle against your faith.

A rap battle can be for competition. Like the different rap leagues. A rap battle can also be out of a dislike between people/group.

No.

Boogie Down Productions did when they decided they wanted to punk mother fucking soft ass PM Dawn on stage.

I personally feel they went too far and other rappers began to emulate the behavior seen or heard about on stage.

And it’s just been snowballing since.

Social media has not ruined hip hop, wack rappers ruined it. This Kendrick beef made it exciting. The same people in here agreeing with Jay are the same people who picked sides 2 years ago.
Getting the world to call your enemy a pedo was crazy. Doing it at the SB halftime was diabolical lol

I had never heard of this but damn that KRS quote is cold as hell lol

"During the tour, Prince Be gave an interview to Details magazine in which he expressed skepticism of rapper KRS-One's activism: "KRS-One wants to be a teacher, but a teacher of what?" KRS-One and his crew, Boogie Down Productions, responded by storming a P.M. Dawn concert, forcing the group off the stage and performing their songs "I'm Still #1" and "The Bridge Is Over". Defending his actions to USA Today's James T. Jones IV, KRS-One said: "I answered his question. 'A teacher of what?' I'm a teacher of respect."
