25 Years ago this week, the WWF/E purchased WCW

What were you doing when this happened?

What were your feelings about this at that time?

What do you remember the most about the final Nitro?

Man i aint know wtf was going on.

all I remember is seeing those WCW guys start popping up in the hardcore title segments n being like who tf is these niggas. It was the guys i wasnt familiar with and it didnt really click for me until Booker T popped up and put Austin through the announce table. That shit there got me hype cus i knew who Book was.

All i could think about after that was how WWF guys were about to pull up on WCW and start interrupting their shit.

Shocked.

Saw the reports online but couldn't believe I saw VKM confirmed it on Raw. Then once Shane showed up on Nitro...it was a wrap.

Never would've thought during that day & age it would happen. During the old skool territory days...sure. But WWE gobbling up WCW...never. I know shyt went downhill after the NWO saga and Russo taking over. I at least thought they would've bounced back eventually.

Nope. The new TNT/TBS exec just didn't like pro-wrestling. And for how much he sold it to VKM...it pretty much was a clearance sale.

I was watching Nitro when it happened lol and the first person appearing on the broadcast was Vince. I knew it was a wrap lol

I wasn’t totally surprised cause WWF was hot and was putting belt to WCW ass. WCW was awful those final years. But there was that “what happens next” feeling

Only thing I remember about the final Nitro was Sting & Flair. And Shane appearing on Nitro which was CRAZY and Vince’s reaction lol

I watched Nitro too that night

One of my friends told me that the WWF bought WCW and I didn’t believe it until I watched the opening of nitro when I saw the WCW logo and then all of a sudden I see Vince McMahon I’m thinking am I watching TNT or am I watching TNN?

A very surreal night and it was strange for a few weeks to watch TNT on Monday nights at 8pm and not see Nitro on

That was months after, you wasn't watching Nitro when Vince popped up? You didn't see Booker vs Buff Bagwell on Raw

I probably got the time line for that shit all mixed up honestly

I dont remember seeing booker and buff on RAW but I also aint get to watch that shit every week either cus my pops would have the the living room tv on loc AND that nigga didnt fuck w/ wrestling. I used to have to hope he'd fall asleep early so i could catch some of RAW before i went to sleep. So i didnt catch shit on Nitro but i do remember them showing the replay of Vince over there and I was watching live when Shane showed up over there

only time I remember seeing Buff Bagwell was after the invasion angle was over and they tried to play around with the idea of making Nitro a thing i guess and for one night only they did it on a thursday i think in the place of SD and did Bagwell vs Kurt Angle and when he lost Kurt threw em out the arena n he never showed up again

It’s a long ass story about that

Long long

The Buff and Booker match was before the Invasion angle and Buff was released after the match.

Vince and Shane was on Nitro the same night, Vince opened the show and Shane closed it.

About Bagwell?

didnt they fire him that night and not tell him or some shit? i think i saw a clip of him talking about it a while back

It’s a long read

I posted it in a thread on here years ago

Let me go find it

Here

Booker putting Austin through the table started the invasion angle but that whole angle was D.O.A since the big stars of WCW didn't come over other than DDP and we all know the crap that happened with him

It was doomed from the start

Vince was so angry about booker/buff he changed everything after that

It went downhill when Austin turned on the wwf at the invasion ppv

I understand why they did the Austin turn cause WCW need star power and Taz, Raven, Shawn Stasiak and Hugh Morrus.

this is how i remembered it kicking off like I think i remember there was some guys showing up beforehand interfering in matches and JR and King mentioned who they were but it wasnt being blown up really then Booker really kicked it off w/ the run in on austin

The day that broke my heart. Even tho the last 2 years were bad man it just was something about the atmospheres when u clicked over to WCW that was different then WWF. miss those days...
