When Jack Black and Paul Rudd announced they were making a movie based on the 1997 Anaconda movie i smiled because I thought it would be a great spoof and parody of the first movie. What i got was a mixed bag of ideas that only worked here and there. Everyone in the cast seemed game but definitely run out of steam here and there in the movie. I will admit I laughed more than a few times at the antics of the characters, the music that accompanied some scenes and some crazy visuals. But when this movie stalls it stalls big time with some drawn out painfully unfunny moments. Thandie Newton looks cute but it seems like her character is just there to be a yes person. Steve Zahn had a couple of good moments. Rudd and Black are their usual selves but Black definitely pulled back from his usual manic persona. It was great to see Ione Skye in a movie again.
The subplot in the movie was very weak. When the movie enters its last act something happens that should have been written into the movie from the start that can also be said of what happens in the movies post credit scenes. Anyone going in thinking they will get a Mad Magazine or Wayans Brothers like spoof will be extremely dissapointted like me.
