Learning Management System

I would pick one and take advantage of all the free training they offer. Most of these platforms have videos and content that they provide for free so that you can understand how they work. I would obtain the free content and then contact the company to inquire about a demo. The demo is usually free too. Once you do that, you can pretty much teach yourself the product and then take a certification exam that they offer.

Yep

I’ve flip flopped too many times with getting into IT smh
Man, I've been non-committal on forums for a long while since I've moved to my new house a few years ago.

I've wanted to see if this was still running, to be honest. But this is great, man.

So it has been hard getting work in my area, especially in this current job market. I just talked with a friend, and she told me that the rumor is that companies have been ignoring resumes and applications if they do not have certifications or any hard evidence of work.

I'm in the middle of finding stable work and at the same time building my agency business which has been hard without stable income.

Job market is absolutely trash. if you can find some meet and greet for IT or whatever field you're in and network network network network and more network. Without that it's going to be hard find a job.

Yeah, I agree with you on the networking piece. In an ideal world, solid skills and a strong track record should be enough, but that’s clearly not the reality right now.

I actually just read something recently that framed networking as a bit of a low-status game in certain contexts: when systems are functioning well, work speaks for itself; when they’re broken, people are forced to lean on proximity, favors, and visibility just to get a foot in the door. And honestly, that feels like where we are.

It’s frustrating and kind of sad, but it also means the playbook changes. Location matters more than ever, where you live, what markets are active around you, and where momentum actually exists will heavily influence how you move in this job market. Some areas still have motion, others are completely stagnant.

So yeah, none of this is ideal. But for now, it’s about adapting, staying visible where it actually matters, and continuing to push even when the system feels stacked. Appreciate you saying it plainly, this market is rough, and a lot of people are feeling it.

Yeah bruh shit is all bad out there. I'm not even in IT I'm in the Telecom construction space as Project Manager and I've been trying to transition into IT PM'ing for about a year and the market is so saturated that you damn near have to have every skill and know the hiring manager to even get a interview.

Lol man I've been a PM 10yrs, certified PMP for 3yrs, Comp Sci, Certified Scrum Master and still can't get into the IT PM world. The Telecom space is cool and I've been in it for 30yrs but I'm trying to make a jump into a new path.

Now I network reach out to people on LinkedIn and basically shoot my shot at others in the role I want to be in and hit them up in a DM and pick their brain on what steps I need to take to get in their position. The reality it's all about who you know more so than what you know which still doesn't sit right with me but that's the game.

I was debating getting my Cisco certs but they way the IT game is going and like I said how saturated the field is and Network Engineers being a dying breed I may focus more on cyber security and a specialized field like pen testing and threat hunting. Going to study for a network+ cert to know the basics but go straight into cyber security and AI

So our team is moving towards google cloud now. Gonna be a bit of a shift for me but i'm wit it. I still like doing my development shit but with AI I need to make adjustments.

Theres so many damn areas to cover though and we got a small team where we have to wear multiple hats so i'm trying to zero in on which areas I want/need to cover. Kinda overwhelming at the moment tbh

What were y'all using before? Azure? This AI mess more and more weighs on me too.

I’m contemplating applying for this part time GRC job for Alignerr. It’s an AI platform. I’ve herd mixed things about it and something about helping AI be more effective with GRC has me feeling wrong lol.

more of a hybrid of on prem and azure. I never really messed too much with the server side stuff heavy tho.
I was more on the application development side. Ima get a bit more familiar with Google Cloud tho. With AI folks can just vibe code and have the model build out some fly shit. They might not be able to troubleshoot or maintain it properly if they dont undertsand the underlying tech but for spinning up some shit quickly.. I can see why people might find it appealing

AI just an unavoidable concept for anyone in the tech industry. Even with the roles I been working towards tho it’s not heavy into the technical aspects of cybersecurity in theory, I still in the back of my mind know I have to dive into that shit with the way the industry is rapidly evolving.

Do you have any certs or experience?
Yes. Not alot but enough to get a entry with a sponsored security clearance.

I have Security +, A+, and Azure AZ 900. Last job i did a ton of conditional policies/GDAP setup within Active Directory with M365 and Azure. Also have helpdesk ticketing experience via ConnectWise, Hubspot, and some Jira.

Any of yall have IT connects in DMV?

The job market here is hell. I can't even get a entry level job right now

I’ll be in the same boat as you in about a year when I’m fixin to move back. With your credentials tho there’s gotta be a gig somewhere.

Thanks man. Security clearances, Doge (racist shit basically) and AI was told to me by a recruiter (older white man) the reason why it's hard right now for me to get on right now.

I basically been stalking recruiters at this point. I spend majority of my day on LinkedIn, barely sleeping so I can be the first person to apply for a new job opening since it's so competitive or waiting for replies for a recruiter to look at my resume. I was up to 5am redoing my resume and crafting cover letters to pass out.

I also drive to these agencies in person to meet recruiters the old fashioned way, but most of the time their location is just empty spaces which is a waste of time and gas.

I've strongly been considering becoming a Pentagon officer just so I can acquire a Top Secret clearance which is basically the good old boys club to get a good job in the DMV. Govt/federal funding is hell right now.

And keep in mind these are entry level jobs when im at least tier 2 lmao

Just signed for a new full time job as a Senior Linux Engineer for this lil AI company.

There's a NetSec component to it, Docker/Kubernetes, as well as writing Python shit... Which I utterly suck at, but I have 2-3 books on Python so I'll be aiight.

Pretty sure the whole reason it took this long to get a new gig is 'cause a lot of these recruiters and HR departments are using AI "tools" to scan resumes instead of actually looking at them. There were jobs I had every single qualification for but got nothing back on, meanwhile I'd get calls repeatedly for jobs that didn't have shit to do with my current skill set but I matched a single keyword from a job I had damn 20 years ago.
