I’m a huge fan of this Hiatus Kaiyote’s music. They have so many tracks I love. It’s kinda not fair to post them because they are kinda soul/R&B and you can tell they are heavily influenced by those genre's. I’ve posted some of their stuff before on here. They are from Australia




The Black Keys was introduced to me by a white coworker many years ago and over time I became more of a fan of them than he did. Once again heavily influenced by classic rock and funk music. Love this song as it always reminds me of the shoe Eastbound and Down. Lmao.



My favorite band of all time Led Zeppelin!!!! This song is my ring tone. Lmao. They were heavily influenced by funk and blues on many songs. What makes me like them so much is how they experimented with different genres of music throughout their career. I’ve heard they talked slick about the black artists they copied, but I’ve never actually seen or heard footage of this. Sadly I wouldn’t be surprised if they did, but they can’t deny who they took a lot of their sound from.





Probably my 2nd favorite rock band of all time. I have hella love for this group and their lead singer, Zach. Loved that they always talked about real ass things in their music. It’s hilarious how so many people love them and are the exact opposite of what they were about. The music was always dope, but the message kept me a fan and always listening to them.
 


Another one of my favorite bands that I own albums by. Loved their messages in the music also. Sadly a lot of folks just hear Serj being loud, but not what he is talking about in most of the songs.




Don’t need much explanation on this group. I’ve seen a ton of Chris Cornell fans in here already. May he rest in peace.

These guys and Bad bad not good are so good!!! Listening to them and Fela and Femi Kuti really put me on to a lot of different types of music.

The first CD's I ever owned I got on the same day: King Tee's "Tha Triflin' Album", Nirvana's "Nevermind", and Soundgarden's "Badmotorfinger".

"Rusty Cage" was the whole reason I bought this album. I was not disappointed.

Amen.

I watched the doc on Woodstock 99 not too long ago and they (rage against the machine) were in it, but also made me forget how anti corporate, anti system, anti sellout all genres of music used to be back then even mainstream wise.

It would be cool to have more bands or musicians like them and System of a Down to be super popular these days.

Shit, even my guy Common has kinda switched up a lot from how he used to be and he is more popular now for his (he isn’t the greatest at) acting than music sadly.
 


Big fan of Ronnie James Dio. Loved the band Dio, Rainbow had some good songs and he did a great job flexing his skills when he took over as lead singer in Black Sabbath. Most folks that like Ronnie always point out Holy Diver or Heaven and Hell when they think of him, but the song above is my favorite one he has ever done and I like a lot of his songs.

I will be honest, I’m not a huge fan of theirs. I do like a few songs and owned Meteora. This is a newer song with the new female lead singer. She is pretty good, even though a lot of folks don’t like her due to the Scientology stuff.


I have more, but I don’t want to scare people off with some of the shit. Lmao. The folks I posted who artist listen to a lot or really love. Outside of Linkin Park. Lmao. I mean, I like some of their shit, but Mike Shinoda rapping is pretty funny to me. He isn’t totally wack, but he is kinda wack.

There was only a handful of kids that would openly admit to liking anything guitar related in middle school and high school in Detroit. Up north it was rather common to like just about everything but not in The City.

Shit anything even remotely perceived as being "white" was kept under wraps in school unless the majority fucked with it (i.e. Michael McDonald, Wham/George Michael, Hall and Oates, Lisa Stansfield, etc).

I think white people doing black or black adjacent music was generally seen as ok when and where I was coming up. It was music that was seen as "white shit" that was the problem. I think the incident I was referring to was either Enter Sandman or The Unforgiven from Metallica. Like damn near everybody in the class liked the song, but nobody wanted to admit to it until they realized others liked it too. Typical flock mind shit.
