Official Physical Medium Thread (Vinyl, cassettes, CDs)

Nah not yet. I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on the Audio Technica AT-LP120 soon tho.

Nice choice, so youre going for more of a DJ turntable deck, rather than a record player...

I went with a belt driven player when sorting my set up... I've only changed the belt 2 maybe 3 times and had Ive the player for over 15 years now, so its served me well...

Im not an audiophile so it can get mad confusing... Thankfully my oldmans friend is an audio geeeeek and helped me out... He got me discounts on equiment and gave me his old Denon amps and Acoustic Energy speakers, so I proper lucked out...

I'm using a belt drive "dj" turntable myself, an Numark TT USB and a Numark TT1610. At some point I'll be upgrading to direct drive joints so I can spin again, but for playback what I have is fine. I'm using the 1610 for listening and sampling.

The interesting thing about turntables is that most of the super high end units are belts, not direct drive as I have always tended to think. Shit like the Acoustic Solid Solid 733 that costs damned near $40k is belt driven and that simply does not compute in my head because for the longest the 1200's were pitched as "high end".

Yeah I think most DJs use direct drive because they stop/start quicker??? Belt drives tend to have less vibration... I dunno though, Im not a really that techy...

My spare room is my sneaker/music room atm but ideally I'd like a dedicated music and reading room...

Heres my current set up, there another speaker out of view on a stand...

And see this is what I need info on. Because I’m a newbie to this. What’s the best record player to buy that minimizes skipping. I think that’s my problem now is my player isn’t the best quality wise. This is what I have now

See, these are cool for folks that just want to listen super casually. My cousin has something like this and she loves it 'cause she can listen to all her old vinyl while she's doing whatever around the crib.

Do you have a home stereo setup? i.e. receiver, speakers, etc.

Ahhhh

Someone finally posted some real shit.

where are the systems?

I'm old school. I do have a more recent Onkyo receiver (HT-R290) as well as an older "big boy" Onkyo (TX-DS797) but they both need repairs. The newer one works until you turn on surround sound, then the audio stops. The Dolby decoder chip on the HDMI board famously overheats and fails, which is the case with mine and that kills all audio from it.

Now this is what i like see. You and water are connoisseurs. 👍

@Water Ur Seeds do you have your collection saved on discogs?

Yeah bro, I did it a few years ago... It took me like a year to go through every CD, cassette and vinyl with a magnifying glass to identify the codes so as to determine the correct pressing/variants etc!!! Handful of my CDs werent on Discogs but 90% are on there...

It was proper labour of love but very satisfying once it was done...

Are you cataloging yours???
