I actually have a funny story that happen with an autistic woman recently since I made that post.
I was at one of the facility’s I work at, I had gotten done with my work and went the exit area to leave. When I get there, this woman was standing in front of the exit door looking at her phone.
I wait for the control officer to open the exit door, when it opens, the lady just stands there still looking at her phone. I don’t interrupt her, I just skip past her and leave.
Just as I’m leaving the other door to exit, I hear the door behind me closing, I look back and the lady is coming to the door I’m at that don’t need a officer to open. So I hold the door cause I’m a gentleman and I always do for women and girls.
I allow her to get ahead of me but she’s walking slow. I walk around her and get to the next security door. Before I get there she yells.
Hey, do you work here? Which’s a weird question to ask, I got on badges and a book bag. I tell her yea I work here and I tell her who I work for. She looks at me confused and says. Well, I’ve never seen you before.

..as though her seeing me is a requirement or proof of employment. So I see her in blue scrubs, I say, are you a nurse, she says no I’m the dental assistant. I tell her yea, that’s why you’ve never seen me. (I have no reason to ever be in medical) that’s nuance though, that i expect most people to get but it didn’t clock to her.
She goes, what’s your name. I tell her the name of the company to say, that’s my name. Because unless I work with you on a consistent bases. Ion want nobody there calling me by my name.
She stares confused and says no, what’s you actual name. I give her the short form of my first name. (Mind you, I had already made it to the door, and this conversation is now happening as I hold the door for her and she walks very slowly to it)
She says, no what’s your last name. I’m thinking, what does that even matter. But by this time I’m realizing she’s autistic, so I’m nice. I tell her my last name just as she get to the door. She steps in and just says “oh”
lol.

like it woulda fucking mattered or something. But I’m such a cool and non judgmental person I’m just letting her be her, no big deal to me.
I check out and hit the parking lot. The officers up front like me so they address me with friendly convo, and it’s like only after that could you see that she believed that I worked there.
So as we get out to the parking lot, she goes, I was just wondering, I don’t want you to think that I’m just nosy or nothing. I’ll tell her, it’s cool, I’m just not used to people asking me who I am.
She looks at me confused, doesn’t say another word and walks to her car.
I think she mighta been a 10..gotta say it’s that’s 10
It’s not that bad
