ABW Home Improvement (DIY, Hacks, etc...) Thread

Since I can't find a home security thread other than the ancient one from 2020, I'mma post it here: If any of y'all have blink doorbell cameras and are tired of constantly having to buy them expensive ass lithium batteries, cop these from Amazon instead. I thought of it 'cause I just took my front door camera offline to charge the batteries in it.

4 Pack Rechargeable 1.5V AA Size Lithium Batteries for Blink Camera, Long-Lasting Double A Battery 2600mWh with 2H Fast Charger (4 Bay Independent Slot)

you could just hardwire it to the existing doorbell's wiring and no need for batteries

Thats what I did with my eufy doorbell camera.

True, and that's how I would have mine powered if the old doorbell was hardwired. Not sure why that wasn't the case.

What I really need is a way to power these extra cameras. I have a 15' barrel connector extension for the one I still need to install to cover the driveway and side door. That will take it from above the door frame to the outlet next to the kitchen door just past the wet room. I think I'll lose voltage if I get a longer one to cover the other side of the house and the rear by going from the outside outlet on the front porch to the spots where I need coverage.

Just seeing this

Why not just get some that use solar power to run

I have 3 eufy cameras that are powered by the sun. I've had zero issues with them

Clear af. Strong ass connection to my Wi-Fi, unless you want that wired but I still think there's a solar option for that as well

We're in Michigan... It's overcast here most of the year.

That said, there's solar farms out here, but I have no idea how they're working.

I don't think it needs direct sun for them to work though

This afternoon I was talking to the cat showing the house next door and realized that there's a pair of floodlights on the rear of the house. I can prolly have an electrician come out and set up an outlet right there so I can set up a pair of cameras pointing in either direction.
