@AP4.0

I read the article and the writer talked about the Issues I pointed out but glossed over them like crazy. 😂 he even stated if some of the rookies joined up on 1 team, so what the team that gets them made it happen by being smart aka tanking. Lmao.

I guess if they add some restrictions that wasn’t talked about in this article it could be a viable option, but this writer and a lot of folks are underestimating how much money these guys can make off the court in big markets and how a lot of them would have no issue teaming up in a big or glamor market, leaving the small markets, like your Pelicans or even my Spurs out In the cold.

But I think you're not taking into account restrictions that would be implemented to prevent this scenario.

The insert big market team would have to cut every player on the roster in order to sign every rookie if I'm understanding your hypothetical correctly. And what team full of rookies is going to compete when there's only so many minutes to go around before one or more want to leave?

This model probably limits teams to two picks or something, IDK but once big market team has signed their two, the other FA have to go somewhere else.

I did state they would have to add restrictions in my last paragraph. 🤣

I know a team full of rookies aren’t going to initially win a lot in the NBA, but once you get the stars locked in at a low rate, it’s way easier (if the front office isn’t bad) to build around them. Doing this deal will speed the process up quicker for big market teams and not penalize them as much for being incompetent like the current structure.

I think you missed my point of how these players could make a ton of money off the court at these big market cities. Shit Kawhi took less initially to sign with the Clippers instead of Toronto because he knew he could make more off the court and of course they cheated and paid him under the table, something Toronto and San Antonio refused to do. Lmao.

I fear They are going to make the NBA like the NCAA where the same teams always get the talent due to location or reputation going this route, unless they clean up this articles proposal.

@AP4.0

I’m not going to lie, maybe I’m too married to my idea of not having any set draft order and letting everyone get ping pong balls.

Some Teams would still tank, but not too many. That’s for damn sure. 🤣

Money can be made anywhere

People kept saying this about Anthony Davis' inability to do big things outside of Nola only for him to go to LA and get a ruffles deal and I think a mobile one oil deal

Zion gets drafted the same off-season and immediately got a signature shoe and clothing line with Jordan, Gatorade spots, mountain dew and it was something else I'm drawing a blank on

That league is flat now. Kawhai wanting to go back home was the biggest selling point. Not no brand deals.

Just 9 million when there's probably over 400 million people who are fans of the game....that's less than 2% lol how cute
:hahaha:

1 its the most viewers in 15 years.
2 tv/Nielsen ratings aren't counted outside of the US so it was most likely one of the most viewed ever if not the most. Other countries will release their data later on.

You look dumb trying to drag this.

I don't think the draft goes anyway.

Worst case get rid of the lottery, make it an order of worst record, and put crazy rules in place like big money fines and then you lose your order by 1 if you get caught multiple times blatantly tanking.

That way only the worst 2-3 teams try to tank and even they can't do it too blatantly. If I can be the 8th seed and still land Cooper Flagg, I'm tanking too.

That all said, you won't ever get a perfect system. No matter what you do, teams will find a way to put themselves in a position to win. Its straight up the job.

Things like what the Jazz is doing cannot be allowed though. Trade all your good players and go out there playing hard and lose every game and get the 1st pick.

The whole I'll have winnable games and purposefully lose them can't be allowed to stand.

You’re correct about Kawhi wanting to go home. He also got more money under the table from the deeper pockets owner of the Clippers. He also was able to secure more opportunities for his friends and family with the deeper pocketed owner.

You and I both know Zion got those deals due to his NCAA hype more than anything. If this free agency idea was around when Davis and Zion was coming out of school, there is no way they are going to New Orleans.

You are correct about getting endorsements any place if you’re really good or easily marketable. But bigger cities still have more off the court possibilities ( which isn’t necessarily the same as endorsements) than smaller cities due to being closer in proximity to certain types of people. Andre Igoudala talked openly about how going to the Warriors helped him immensely with diversifying his investment portfolio due to the tech industry in the Bay Area.

You could challenge my point by stating during the offseason some players live in major cities, but I could also refute it by saying a lot go back to the state they are from or stay in their new adopted home.

I’m not saying the free agent idea couldn’t work with a ton of rules/ restrictions, I just see this as not truly being a way to fix tanking (unless major penalties occur for tanking) and a potential way of shutting out small markets who aren’t creative or innovative

Exactly

Teams will find a way to work the system in their favor. People get paid millions just to find loopholes

🤣
