Ja will be alright. He and the coach are in a better place now than earlier in the season. Dude literally led them to the playoffs a year ago, this is an off year. He can either rehab his value and get a better return or he can be kept around for the next iteration of the Grizzlies seeing that he’s still relatively young. Win/win either way.

The Hawks were looking to retool by handing the keys to JJ, bring in a vet to stabilize things and a shooter for JJ, the Wiz are setting themselves up to to be competitive next season. The Grizzlies are rebuilding so they are selling off their assets, they just got 3 first round picks for JJJ, so then why would they turn around and hastily trade away Ja for nothing simply because of his “negative value”? They can simply wait for a better deal or keep him around.

They are half way there, he and the coach are in a better place and he actually wants to stay, so if he buys in he will take a deal that makes sense for where he’s at right now as a player, he rehabs his value then you can get a better deal. It’s a win/win either way.

I’m saying that the circumstances around the Hawks/Wizards trade is different than for the Heat/Grizzlies. If the Grizz were in the same place the Hawks were in then I could understand the point more. The Hawks aren’t rebuilding, the Grizzlies are so you’d expect the rebuilding team to want more back for their star player.

I get the heat and other teams not wanting to part with assets for morant atm but I don't think Memphis should have given him away for the sake of just giving him away. Its not like they're about to do anything with the cap room. Things change, injuries happen, players become disgruntled, his name will keep coming up cause he's still young, has legitimate talent and over time that contract shortens. They now have a baseline on his value, both sides can shift the focus to trying to rehab it and can go into the summer better equipped to look for a deal. 🤷🏿‍♂️

And imo now same as it was then thinking Terry rozier expiring and Jaime Jaquez alone in exchange for morant is greedy. Now what?
