Damn all of these years have a couple of bangers but also a few duds that make it hard to vote for.

91 has the most that I really fuck with (Boyz N The Hood, Five Heartbeats, and New Jack City), but 96 got two that I like more than the entire list (Don’t be a Menace and Thin Line). I know they’re not objectively the best movies, but for me they’re the most sentimental.

Me and my best friend who is truly a brother to me used to watch them shits all the time. Still quote shit from them to this day.

Menace 2 Society got drowned out by all those other movies. Good movies but I didn’t really watch them like that. We watched Menace damn near everyday when it dropped on VHS.

How people feel about Boyz N The Hood we felt about Menace. I was 11 when Boyz N The Hood came out so it was a little before the time I really cared about movies. But I was 13 when Menace came out, probably 14 when I first watched it so it clicked.

99 for me but 92 is a close second followed by 94
99 only got Life for me. I like the others, but they don’t hit like some others.

I guess what you like really depends on when you came of age in the 90’s. How you feel about movies is probably tied to a significant period in your teenage life. That’s why I chose 96.

Love Jones is my favorite movie out of all of these, but outside of Soul Food and maybe Booty Call 97 isn't touching 95 overall. I could watch all of the 1995 movies on repeat and not get tired of them.

1999 is 2nd for me though. In too Deep is the weakest one of that group, but the other 3 are great films
