ICE Protest/Riot Thread

I was just talking to someone about this. I got picket up in Vegas on a warrant for unpaid traffic tickets (I never had a Nevada license the entire time we lived there) and while I was sitting in processing in CCDC I noticed there was a line to this room off to the side with a sign over it: "Immigration and Customs Enforcement". The line had nothing but Mexican and Asian men in it. When they get arrested for whatever, and cops find out they're here illegally, they do their own intake then send them straight over to ICE for processing and deportation.

That's what's different between most other states and Minnesota. MN refuses to hand anyone over to ICE after they've been arrested, which is what's supposed to happen.

If I’m not mistaken, Minnesota releases criminals to ICE after they serve their sentence. I guess they feel like it’s better to make sure the criminals are actually punished instead of being sent back to be free in another country. Sounds like a better system to me if justice is your aim. There’s a history of cooperation with ICE that’s never been a problem until now.

Aside from that, we can clearly see that’s not really the issue. One issue is ICE rolling up in caravans to apprehend one person in the middle of the day, basically begging protestors to engage. Another is ICE stopping people based on the color of their skin or accent. That’s not a targeted operation. Another is ICE approaching peaceful protestors and assaulting them.

At some point we have to hold law enforcement to a higher standard. You can’t ask people who are exercising their constitutional rights to stop just because they’re making you uncomfortable. Law enforcement should at that point change their tactics (smaller presence when apprehending, perform the operations early in the morning when less people are out, etc.). But obviously this is what the want which is why they’re doing it.

The Minnesota DOC does contact ICE if someone here illegally is about to be released from prison, yes, but county sheriffs and city cops haven't been cooperating like that. I read somewhere that less than 10 counties in that state are actively cooperating with ICE on any level so if you can make bail, you ain't gotta worry about getting picked up by ICE like you would elsewhere.
