I might like the song more within album, but for now it's cool. When you use a concept that's already been done before (Rewind), you have to take it to another level or at least match it. Sonically it's not better than Rewind, lyrically and descriptively it's not fuckin with Rewind.

You might like "I Gave You Power" more, but there's an argument on if Me & My Girlfriend is better. There's no argument here.

why are you comparing his song to those two?

just curious

Which 2?

Track 2 uses the backwards storytelling concept from Rewind

Me & My Girlfriend used the storytelling as a gun concept from I Gave You Power

I should've asked why are you comparing his song instead of judging it off it's own merit?

Those are some extremely high bars you're trying to make as a basis to say well if it's not better or on par as those then is not a good song.

There's a reason this style is song isn't made by everyone.

For example, if someone did a storytelling song about an obsessed fan, it's gonna get compared to "Stan".

Rewind is a hiphop staple. If you use the concept, naturally people are gonna compare to the 2. That's why I mentioned Me & My Girlfriend, cuz at least Pac did the concept justice.

Ok

And maybe I'm saying, how about we don't do this and let songs rock off their own merit as the examples you listed are pretty much in a league of their own and it's not fair to the more recent artists attempt at their version of the style

Imo a better comparison would be pacs me and my gf vs Jay's

Same concept and beat

And for the record, I had Cole's "Clouds" as the best song of 2025. I just think he could've did the concept better.

could’ve did the concept better?

Nas’s rewind is awesome and all but at the end of the day, it’s a song told backwards about Nas smoking a blunt, gettin head and his homies calling him to let him know they found somebody they gotta kill.

The dopeness was in the execution, not so much the story.

I give props to Cole for taking the concept and applying it to his entire life. He expanded on Rewind.

Nas said it best, No Idea’s original.

The finished product was mid :js4:

25 years later we're still talking about Rewind, we won't be talking about "Track 2" 2 weeks from now.

Again, rewind is a cool concept but a basic ass nothing story is being told.

The woo factor is in the execution.

I’m more impressed that Cole was able to maintain the same rhyme scheme while telling his life story backwards

I don’t care they Nas did it first.

So you're saying "Track 2" is better than "Rewind"?
