Yall Into Emulation/Rom Hacks/Mods? The Thread

I’m still tinkering around with this shit. It was a headache at first considering this is my first android device since 2012. I’m trying get my ROM library right so I can curate the fuck outta it.

I found some HD texture packs for Ocarina of Time & Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and god damn, what a difference. Now I’m on the hunt for more packs for more games to give em all a fresh coat of paint.

Got a Miyoo Mini for the go, can play up to PS1. Looking for a horizontal handheld next go round.

At home, got a custom PC with Batocera (Linux based, Emulator OS) plays up to PS3.

Find a Beelink SER5 or similar mini pc with integrated Ryzen 5 gpu for $200 or less and you can emulate up to PS3 at 1080p with Batocera, no problem.

GOAT'ed for this. I didn't even know there was such a distro out there for PC. I have and SD card with RetroPie installed on it for my RasPi3 that I use periodically, and I do have emulators on my Fedora 42 and CentOS 7 machines but never knew there's a whole emulation distro. Might have to check it out.

Yeah, check out the YouTube video I posted above, it’s plenty others too. It’s a breeze to setup. Can flash a thumb drive and boot into that, to test it out. But it’s plenty of cheap mini pc out there to have a dedicated box.

My primary spot for the last 25 years or so has been romhustler.net. Coolroms and Emuparadise are two others I've used.

Archive.org also has near complete MAME rom sets. What's missing are CHD's (compressed hard drive) and Laserdiscs (for games like Dragons' Lair, Mach III, Space Ace, etc). There's also Dreamcast isos there too.

A lot of CHD's can be found as torrents. That's how I got Killer Instinct and the SFIII dumps.
 
Also, I'm pretty sure there's still torrents out there of complete 8 and 16 bit bit console rom sets. Prolly some on archive.org too.
