The ABW Church Thread

Bruh, it can be a lot. Like y'all chose this life, you wanted to be a pastor. Your wife WANTED to be a first lady. I think she wanted to be first lady more than he wanted to be pastor. But the point is they both ran head first into these positions, and I understand that it's a lot. But we didn't choose that... So sometimes we take breaks, cuz they definitely will drop a lotta shit on us at one time. And I'm like.... Naw boundaries.

And we still cool as shit, the pastor hits me up for little shit like grabbing something at best buy, like I know he can Google the shit, but he just wants to reach out, and keep me posted with what's going on at church.

He's a good dude, he's about 10 years older than me... Bro even married me and my wife... We've been super cool for like 30 years.... And I totally get WHY he would want me at his side for this journey. It does make sense, and when his pops was alive, it was very clear his pops wanted this for me too. But I've always maintained that when I want to be in a leadership role.... I'll tell y'all. Don't assign shit to me... Cuz I'll push back every time.
Luckily once we started going back we didn’t get any pressure to pick up where we left off. I probably would have left again, lol.

Treated her like an old pimp when he’s hoe didn’t bring him enough. Sad thing is she’ll probably will still continue to attend. You can’t buy your way in heaven with money. Pastors are some of the biggest scam artist ever! When you stop doing it for the love and do for financial gains or for the influence you don’t need to be speaking gods world.
That’s why I like my church. Pastor say give or don’t give, his church is going to be fine because he relies on God to provide. God will place it on someone’s heart to give if they see fit.

The offering prayer he quotes 2 Corinthians 9:7 “Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”

He always talk junk about other churches that be doing fish fry’s and car washes to raise money, lol. He like I’m not about to put y’all on the front lines when people should be giving based on his preaching and their relationship with God.

I run sound and visual on Sunday mornings plus choir rehearsals on Saturdays. Last time I didn't go, I was vacationing with family
I was an usher for a while then I moved to operating a camera. The problem with both was you had to do it every Sunday. Some churches will rotate people so you have a Sunday or two off during the month. I probably would have stuck with either longer if that was an option.

Anyway. I haven't been to church outside of a wedding or baptism since the year before high school. Would go regularly then we moved out of the area so it was just a hassle to get there. I did continue Bible study during the week for about a year then I stopped going.

Not really a religious person in practice today but there are things I pull from it and apply to everyday life.

Ministry is extremely draining. We were close to dropping all of our ministries last week, tbh. But we prayed and got through it. I will be asking for more men to step up in the Youth ministry. Doing that 2x a month and doing children’s 2x a month then doing security and ushering in between is hard. There’s been a month or two where I haven’t been able to sit in the pews and glean from the Word. I have to go home and catch it. Sundays used to be 6+ hour days for us.

We stepped back on staying after church and they started calling us wondering why we were pulling back

I’m like yo, we are there and serve in almost every ministry, we have never called off or switched w someone, we have never missed a Sunday or Wednesday in forever. Let us be when we leave. They backed off after we said we would drop all ministries just to fellowship afterwards. They admitted they were wrong for being so intrusive and demanding. We are all good now.

In getting a decent idea from your post but could you explain in more detail what ministry is?

Just watched this. I would have snatched my $1,200 right back, lol.

An act of service that honors God for the good of others. Pretty much
So is it something you just decide to do with other members of your church or is there an organization you go through?

I know when we go back we gonna be there all day. We shoulda went last Sunday when the Ravens were on a bye..

And that was my biggest issue: no one else would do it and I got overwhelmed

I was cool with my youth pastor and there were times where he would preach at another church and some of us would go to support but I couldn’t since I was running the media every week and then I couldn’t sit and listen like I wanted because I had to make sure that the mics weren’t making noises or the right verse was on the screen. It was frustrating

Like extra curriculars at school ..

Every single group is a ministry.

Ushers
Deacons
Trustees
Youth
Choir
Willing workers or hospitality
The friggin program committee
The calendar committee

Like some churches get WILD with multiple ministries.... And some members will be on like 4 or 5... It can easily become overwhelming

We had some shit called the H.O.P.E ministry.... When I say my wife was ready to cuss people out on that ministry.... We just needed a break

Wildest shit ever was when the men's ministry went on a church retreat.

That shit was pure sitcom comedy movie material.... One of the funniest weekends of my life by a long shot.... And I was sober... Like that shit was pure comedy

That’s exactly what I did at my old church until this decade. I was the only one doing it

They kept relying on me and I was having some mental issues that I wanted to take a break from doing that kind of work every Sunday but they wouldn’t let me so I left before 2020. Haven’t been back since

That's messed up. Why didn't you train someone else in how to do it? No one else was interested?

I'm part of the A/V team at my church.

haven't been since we moved to the west coast

i also worked cameras and graphics and stuff for years. i chose to do that work because the sense of responsibility kept me going. and me going kept my family going. we would only really not go if we were out of town.
