Is NBA Youngboy The King of HipHop To Everybody Under 21?

takeoff-awkward.gif
Nas don’t got the YNs

Youngboy got the OGs
:mybad: My dad in his 60s I gotta believe him lol

I thought this was a legit discussion bubbling, now I see its a marketing push lol.

Salute to Youngboy, but the promo shouldn't set the bar too high. He still need refinement to be King/superstar/etc. He definetly ain't fraud though, he does have actual fans.

My only question is where or what is his HIT record???....or do the old school metrics not apply to him

And I thought Gunna was that guy for the youngins.......at least before the Rico case

Is he bigger than Kodak?

This is just 1, That boy got bout 20 in the clip he can run none stop. I said 20, he may have more. He been out since 2014, locally. He got some heat in this catalog.. More than Kodak, More than Gunna and More than J.Cole (yea I said it)
That boy got a library

Only nigga I know that made Baby wanna do a collab album with him. Kevin Gates did a collab with him early on. Moneybaggs yo did one with him too but YB wasn't fucking wit it. Cussed Money Yo out and kicked him and his crew outta the stu, but that's another story.

The song I just posted, this one got leaked and had the game in a chokehold. I think that 30 crowd, if you're not around anyone that's under 30, you won't hear his music. It's not radio friendly, folks over 30 usually don't listen to music that talks about sliding folks. and calling out blitzs They usually don't play his music in spaces where 30 year old and up hang, cigar lounges, winery spots, happy hour etc. You won't hear his music there. He's not a Nas or a Luda.

I'm not sure how old you are but it's like one of those crazy situations where you have to actually be around teens, 20-year-olds or in their space to know his music.

His music is played at college campus, about every high school team runs out to his music, bout every college football team this year is coming outta their tunnel to his music. I've seen some NFL teams come out the tunnel to his music. I even saw San Francisco O lineman Trent Willimans clown ass rapping his lyrics coming outta the tunnel, and I was like this dude is not in his 20s., he rapping YB, his overpaid ass needs to be wrapping up DEs smh
Go to a 10 U football game on a Saturday morning and watch them warmup before their game, you'll more than likely hear YB coming outta that big ass speaker and you'll see them bobbing their heads.
The youth coaches, them dusty niggas usually are on YB because more than likely they have kids who listen to YB, so they are drawn to the music.

His music is starting to creep into to that 30 year old and up crowd, slowly.

I stated in another thread, he needs a Baby to give him that touch or vision that will have him making music for his fans still and for the older crowd who just wanna ride to something on the weekends etc.

Ok yes I'm an old head which is why I was asking if the old school metrics apply to him and if he's not on the radio how is he a superstar?....I've heard my niece speak on him but I also had some younger coworkers say that Gunna is their guy so idk(this was also before the trial)....Gunna has play on the radio and songs that 30 and ups can listen to.....the song you posted is cool but what exactly makes it a hit?....outside of the youngins fuckin wit it....this reminds me of the xxx wave before he was killed....strong Internet cult following and one hit away from becoming a major force in the game.....I also agree he needs a stamp from an OG that'll propel him further..... Is Wayne doin anything with him?

Ah Yea, no doubt, Gunna had a run and during that time, YB was in prison or awaiting his trial, I wanna say he was trying to beat his Fedz case at that time so he wasn't on the scene like that.
I think the difference between Gunna and YB is Gunna has (backing) an actual label with Thugga, so he is going to be more visible and get the features. YB is just YB, he has nobody backing him, he was on Atlantic, I don't even know who he's even signed to now, Baby has prowled his way on the train, but Baby is more so a mentor in the music vs a person who is trying to put his music out to the masses like he once did with his own artists. Make him like that 08 Wayne. Nah Wayne not doing anything with him, Truth be told, if I was to guess, YB prolly not even trying to do anything with them dudes, like your Waynes or Drakes. He don't chase features.

Nigga had to give him an extra 200k on top of his fee just to get on the song with Future, paid him an extra 75k I heard for him to do a song with Nikki and it was HIS song lol
That nigga don't fuck with a lot of folks.

How he's a superstar? Funny you asked that, Nikki Manji asked the same question about a week ago on her live, and she's puzzled to why he has some much love. She genuinely wanted to know and folks couldn't really articulate it to her.

The lil nigga just do what he wants, he don't play with folks, he respects folks, he shows who he is and the nigga done been through many wars and came out on top. The lil nigga just cut from a different breed.

Niggas wanna study something, they should study his fanbase. I tried to state that his fanbase are the kids of kids. He been out for close to 10 years, since 2015. That was 10 years ago, that means that those who are over 30, was listening to him when they were in their 20s, they had kids, so their kids were listening to YB. And YB 10 years ago had hits, he wasn't so much loud like he is now, but in Louisiana and other lil areas, his music played. At High School Games, etc.

Now fast forward to today, those parents who were 24, 26, are now in their 30s, late 30s, and their kids are now 9-17s etc, and they are listening to YB lol and their parents still listen to YB somewhat.

That's 2 sets of fanbase Under 30 crowd and the somewhat over 30 crowd. Black and White.

I don't think anybody has a fanbase that's like this.. One may say Drake, but I don't see 15 year old dudes listening to Drake's albums, nor K.Dot, nor J.Cole etc.

YB is the only one. Gunna, you said, I'll give you that, but he doesn't have the library that YB has....Dirk doesn't have the over 30 crowd that YB has.

I don't see no artist that has this dynamic setup other than YB lol, This needs to be studied.

The only artists that I can think of like this was, MJ during his BAD run maybe and maybe Bobby Brown during his 1988-1990 run where you can catch a 15 year listening to Bobby's album and a 36 year old listening to it

It sounds to me like he's still just a regional star....is he bigger than Wayne, Boosie, and Gates are in LA?....has he even solidified his position as the #1 guy in the south yet?(Cuz he definitely doesn't have the West Coast like Kdot or the East Coast like.....well now that I think idk who has the East Coast like that lol.... again I'm an old head) cuz I think guys like Gunna and hell even Glorilla right now might have something to say about that

I get the fan base growth part and based off that argument he's definitely on his way....I'm just questioning the actual talent/substance part cuz again where are the hit records.....where is his "Bad" or "My Prerogative"?.....the song that transcends his actual fan base and reaches everyone else?

In 2025, no he's not regional. Every or most of the high schoolers, college kids from New Orleans, BR to New Jersey is bumping YB or getting into his music.
Yes he is bigger than Boosie
Boosie doesn't have that under 30 crowd in a choke hold. Boosie, has not made good music post prison. Folks fuck with Boosie off his old songs. Could Boosie sell out in Louisiana, yes, from off his old songs,

His fans that are 30 and up crowd fuck with his old stuff and that under 30 crowd fucks with Boosie strictly off his wipe me down song which is really Foxx song, local BR rapper and that Set it Off song and the shit he does on Social media. Thats how Boosie still stays on the scene, with that under 30 crowd. He does the goofy shit on social media and he has set it off which is played still around the world. The 30 and up crowd pushes at their spots which trickled down to that under 30 crowd.

Man you make some good points. This what makes this board, section go with these type of discussions

You gotta look at it in this lens, or this is how I view it, Glo and Gunna are backed by another rapper or so call label. YB isn't. Glo is going to get the push, the lable is pumping money into her to be seen, so is Gunna, money is being pumped into their success by others.

YB aint really getting that investment. I think Baby is trying to get him on board..but before, he aint get that. Dude signed a deal for a million for 4 albums, it may been more. He took 450k and his OG took 450k and they used the rest for videos
Master P got mad lol. He wanted them to do the deal with him. YB did it with Atlantic. The dude at the time with Atlantic wasnt really marketing YB, which he dropped the ball in a sense but he still made money because YB was killing shit, or in a sense, starting to bubble. At that time it was many artist in his lane, your xxx, your A.Boogies, Lil Yachty, Lil Trippie, Thugga, lil baby, bag yo, some more other lil dudes. It was like 8 to 9 of them dudes out, right around the 17 18 year, so YB wasnt really being put out like that compared to his peers per say.

But he still had folks bumping his music and others were taking notice like Meek Mills, P like I said, Baby
Baby started saying he was coming.

So I attribute the labels that your Glo and Gunnas are on that were pumping that money into them to put them out like that. YB wasnt on like that nor did he have anybody major pushing him

Kevin Gates but he wasnt big either at the time like that

The 3rd part...where is his Bad, My Prerogative, to me, he has none. To me. He doesnt have a 400 degrees or your Ready 2 Die. To me, he is not that type of artist yet.

His range aint there yet. He hasn't gotten with that Baby, or Quincy Jones or Babyface to guide him on making this type of project.

And thats where I think Baby will come into play so he can maybe put out a Bad or My Prerogative type album

But to those who are under 25, they'll prolly tell you he has 3 classics or however many they will say. You and I that are over 30 have different metrics and that's why I think those who are over 30 judge his music off of, those metrics and qualifiers.

I dont think right now he could make a bad or a 400 degrees, Ready 2 Die type project. His team doesnt have that vision. They are not in the mindset of making a classic that will last the test of time, they are for the now gratification.

Baby sees his lane where he can get him into that field if YB lets him. YB usually do his own work, he picks his own beats, songs, producers etc.

Just to dive in on how he has this fan base.
Most of his songs are about stepping, violence, your average 14-24 year old even those in college all wanna be so call tough or have some kind of edge lol
They all wanna be gangsta and even those that dont wanna walk in that lane, they wanna be associated with the cool toy, or what everybody else is listening too or quoting.

YB will say some shit that niggas can quote all day. Im riding in a 250k car with a 3 dollar green flag

He talks like them lil niggas, he speaks their language. If you around them lil dudes, you'll think they are YB lol

With the chicks, how you get chicks 14 -30 to listen to your music? You talk about depression, pain, and you make ass clapping songs.
Yb checks all the boxes to this.
He talks about pain, struggle, broken hearts, depression and all that shit that these chicks and dudes face every day in a sense to the T.

Plus the fact that he makes babies with these lil chicks out here who these chicks who are his fans wanna be like and look like lol.
Chicks love a reckless nigga. Smh especially in that age range.

He make a song about his pain from a relationship and the shit is played in these spaces where that age group roam and then you have the lil niggas quoting the shit because they been hurt too lol.

He locks in on those subject matters. Thats how he attracts more listeners
You know everybody who is 14-25 done lived about 9 lives, let them tell it and they go through so much

You know everybody wants a pity party and want a party. That dude taps into that.
Shit is crazy man. But he discovered the secret sauce. Even Thugga dont have songs like YB.

His subject matter resonates with that 14-28 crowd and the lil kids wanna be cool, so they go listen to what everyone else likes.

Dude subject matter on songs is what makes him who he is.

Its not that borderline kill yourself music but its that, the world is against me type shit in a sense. I cant even explain it

Prime example
That song i posted about Nevada

When that song came out, you had 15, 16 year old teens talking about they wanna go to Nevada lol.
Smh. Shit is crazy man but im proud of the dude

My nephew go crazy for Youngboy. That nigga probably bought himself a gun to protect himself from King Von

I listen to a lotta young shit. I gotta 14 year old son, so we both listen to each other music. I do not see the appeal of YB Nba, I've never heard one song that i thought was cool. And again..i listen to a lotta that shit

I just don't get it... But props to shorty and his fans
