Are Taxes The Biggest Scam In America?

Ahhh ok

The issue I have is income tax I guess. You get the difference provided you paid too much in taxes but will owe if they calculate you didn't pay enough in taxes

Meanwhile, they've earned interest from your overpayment in taxes and you don't get any of those dividends in addition to your "refund"

I do feel like property tax is absurd though... cuz if they can take your home/property for not paying property taxes even if your shit is paid off then you dont really own it do you

To a certain extent:

Taxes are needed to fund several societal functions - education, services like police and fire/rescue, medical, city/county services like park restoration, defense, etc. The issue is that so much of the taxes get wrapped up in services the general public doesn't need (our defense budget is $950 billion as of last year, and more than threes time the next country - China), that makes taxes seems like you're being ripped off, and that your money is going towards shit that that isn't needed or wanted by the American public.

I wish that every year, people were allowed to choose what they want their taxes allocated to, and what could they leave out. I bet that would balance some shit out QUICK.

Thing is folks got choose where tax money went how many white folks helping non whites lol

Shit be looking like Middle Ages out here

I thought he meant along the lines of you get charged an income tax for the work you do.. then you pay sales tax to make a purchase in the store.. then you pay property tax.. etc etc.

That's still stupid. So if the Federal government took the exact same amount from your check and then split it up after they took it, then taxes suddenly wouldn't be a scam anymore because you were only taxed one time? lol

Agreed that we don't really own shit. But we do know the bulk of those taxes are a necessity for basic infrastructure, maintenance, public services etc.

Taxing me to fund schools and maintain infrastructure is reasonable but, for example, if a city is raising my taxes to raise teacher salaries, but student math and reading levels are steadily declining, I feel like the issue is government policy since we already know exactly where the taxes are going.

or if im being taxed and the schools and roads are shit.. where is the money going

Let’s say you make a dollar and you’re taxed on it. So you have less than a dollar.

Now you go spend what’s left of that dollar, and your hit with another tax.

That’s a damn scam.

You don’t get what you earned at all.

Diff taxes for diff things at diff levels

Diff taxes for diff things at diff levels

I mean property tax is supposed to be for state/local
sales tax is also supposed to be for state/local
income tax is state/local AND federal
utility taxes, which are seemingly state/local as well

does seem to be a bit of double dipping on peoples money

I think there needs to be better oversight auditing and accountability but u can look up what all these taxes fund

Doesn't mean I agree with all of it or that I don't think they overdo it, but that's diff than just an outright scam

Different things though. One state might use the sales tax to take care of roads, property tax to fund schools and things like snow clearing, and income tax goes to state infrastructure.

I'm not saying people are wrong when they suggest that there is some mismanagement. However, I think people are underestimating just how much it takes to run our society. You get taxed a bunch because there is a bunch of shit that needs to be funded. It's not like you're being hit with sales taxes and the monopoly man just comes along and takes it all.

if there isnt proper auditing and accountability.. where can we look that up?

and if it isnt being spent the way it was intended.. then yeah.. I would agree with @Dwayne that we are being scammed. That isnt always the case... but it seems more prevalent than it should be

yeah I think we are all agreeing that the management of the funds is the problem overall

For the most part the taxes are funding what it's intended to, even after the stories of public officials getting caught misappropriating funds. That's why I think most peoples issues stem from governance which also includes overspending, which leads to more taxes.

at some point folks should be able to have a direct say in where they want their money.. or at least a portion of their money goes

I might be slow yet you're the one that does not know what the word scam means. Again, mismanaging tax money doesn't make the concept of taxes a scam. Also, how do you even know that the overtime pay isn't warranted? Do you have numbers that show the departments are just wasting time and money?
It is a scam when you are mismanaging funds & ripping people off , what don't you understand about American greed. They are currently increasing fees & slowing down the USPS to make it look bad & eventually sell it which will only make it's serviced more expensive in the hands of corporate America.

I mean, we do when there are things in the local ballots that deal specifically with taxes

Again, our current government mismanaging our taxes doesn't make taxes as a concept a scam. If you can't understand that, I don't really know what to tell you. Everybody in here agrees that our government, especially the current administration, has done a pretty shitty job of using our tax dollars.

You want the government to control everything?

Think about the current state of the government. You want maga to control more of your life? Limit more of what you can and can't do. Strange

Not to mention you'll get taxed more. Though it seems a lot of people on here are ok with socialism as they hate millionaires and billionaires
