Fair enough, but if we cut spending in those areas, it's not like you'd see a reduction in your taxes. At least, not if the government is being responsible. Instead, you'd see a shifting of those taxes towards other things like universal healthcare or free college.

Nah. The U.S. as a superpower is done. If we're smart, we'll just fade to the background, find our niche, and do our best to take care of home. We only spend so much on the military because we are 1) trying to be the world's police and 2) involved in a bunch of corrupt imperialist bullshit. If we stop with both of those things, we won't need a huge military.

Taxes are a scam , the government in the United States owns nothing & needs money for services they provide so they find ways to tax the citizens. Traffic citations , property taxes , sales tax , permit fees ,parking fees , garbage collection. If the government owned /ran the healthcare system, telecommunications networks , oil & gas , electric grid & nuclear plants . We wouldn't have so many billionaires & taxes because the government would have plenty of money from those industries to run the country & taxes would be very low . One of the biggest revenue drain is the police & fire department which drains budgets with uncontrollable overtime

How does any of that make taxes a scam though. You're basically advocating for a more socialized system than we have. I don't even disagree with what you're saying. I think the government should run most of those things and you can also add food production to the list. The problem is that right now, the majority of Americans don't support going to that system. They prefer the system we have now (mostly because they've been lied to). In our current system, taxes are the way you pay for necessary services. That doesn't make them a scam unless you somehow feel that you're not getting the services those taxes are supposed to provide.

We pay taxes & the government/feds turns around & gives that money right back to defense contractors to manufacture arms to destabilize other countries to keep them poor & steal their resources. None of that money back down for universal healthcare, better roads , lower government fees . Ask yourself why are you paying the state every year for sticker to drive your vehicle, why is cellular & Internet service so expensive.

Nothing you're saying means that taxes as a concept are a scam. You're providing examples for how our taxes are not being used optimally. I agree with that, but that doesn't make taxes a concept especially when things like universal healthcare and infrastructure improvements were put on the table by campaigning politicians and the American people voted against them.

You might be slow , the states are not checking law enforcement & the fire department budgets on overtime pay. Those 2 departments are draining state /counties & city budgets .
 
Only idiots would think that taxes are not a scam . The way the state /county /cities are set up leaves to an unnecessary bureaucracy of wasteful spending. Within a state you may have 50 counties or parishes & within those counties you'll have 40 cities with their own mayo , manager , city councils, fire , police , water sewer & other leaderships which leads to most of the waste in government spending. If you had one mayor per county , one police chief , one sheriff, one fire chief per county it would greatly reduce the budgets . Small cities set up speed traps for funding .

I might be slow yet you're the one that does not know what the word scam means. Again, mismanaging tax money doesn't make the concept of taxes a scam. Also, how do you even know that the overtime pay isn't warranted? Do you have numbers that show the departments are just wasting time and money?

I thought he meant along the lines of you get charged an income tax for the work you do.. then you pay sales tax to make a purchase in the store.. then you pay property tax.. etc etc.

Ahhh ok

The issue I have is income tax I guess. You get the difference provided you paid too much in taxes but will owe if they calculate you didn't pay enough in taxes

Meanwhile, they've earned interest from your overpayment in taxes and you don't get any of those dividends in addition to your "refund"
