I think he’s talking about how the MAGA republicans he helped bankroll last election are in control of everything from the presidency, Congress & the MAGA Supreme Court…Democrats oppose this bill, and almost half of Congress (Democrats) is going to vote NO. So how is America a one-party country? Does he really think that people are that dumb?
SACRAMENTO, California — California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Democratic state lawmakers on Monday agreed to limit the scope of one of the state’s preeminent environmental rules in a last-minute budget deal.
Lawmakers passed a trailer budget bill on Monday exempting a wide array of projects from the California Environmental Quality Act, including wildfire fuel breaks, water system upgrades, portions of the high-speed rail project, and advanced manufacturing facilities like semiconductor and EV plants.
Environmental groups were apoplectic. “They’re conditioning the funding of essential services like health care, education, to this huge policy change that would dramatically roll back environmental review for some of the most polluting facilities in California,” said Asha Sharma, the state policy director of the Leadership Counsel for Justice and Accountability.
It’s the latest — and one of the most consequential — turns in Sacramento’s years-long trend of poking holes in CEQA, a foundational 1970s-era law requiring construction projects to not only analyze their environmental impacts, as federal law also requires, but address those impacts. Environmentalists defend the law as essential and pro-growth advocates deride it as an obstruction to critical housing, infrastructure and industrial development.
Basically this rolls back a law that looks into environmental impact of new developments.
Industry and pro-housing groups like the California Chamber of Commerce and California YIMBY are cheering the win. Matthew Lewis, a spokesperson for California YIMBY, called the measure “the biggest housing legislation in a generation.”
“The fact that people are so vociferously opposed to this — all of these common-sense solutions to problems that we’ve all known about for decades — is just more proof that we need leadership on this,” said Louis Mirante, senior vice president of public policy with the Bay Area Council, which represents Intel and Apple, among others.
In particular, labor groups representing auto workers, machinists and scientists and environmental groups coalesced in opposition to a provision that would remove the CEQA review for advanced manufacturing facilities like semiconductor and EV plants, which they said can leach toxic waste into neighborhoods.
Secret Service 'to spend $600K' on renting golf carts and porta-potties at Trump's New Jersey club
The Secret Service has reportedly signed contracts to rent golf carts for $550,930 and porta-potties for $80,385 for use at Donald Trump's Bedminster, New Jersey club
Taxpayers will reportedly be footing a staggering $600,000 bill for Secret Service agents to be able to use golf carts and portable toilets at Donald Trump's private country club in Bedminster, New Jersey.
The Secret Service signed a pair of contracts with Associates Golf Car Service of Poughkeepsie, New York, and Restroom Resources LLC of Wrightstown, New Jersey, on June 3, according to federal records reviewed by The Independent. The first contract is for "Golf Car Rental and Transportation Services,” and is worth a potential $550,930, the outlet reports.
The agreement has reportedly been put in place until June 2, 2026. Meanwhile, the contract with Restroom Resources is for “portable restroom rentals and services” and worth up to $80,385. It is set to run through May 31, 2026. It comes as Trump’s New Jersey golf course is slammed with 18 food violations and 'lowest in US' rating.
The latter contract also comes with a three-year renewal option for another fee of $333,801.
Back in 2019, the Secret Service allocated a $95,250 to rent golf carts for Bedminster from Associates Golf Car Service over a six-month period. It's so far unclear whether the new $550,930 budget is for a larger fleet of golf carts or if the prices have more than doubled since.
According to Associates Golf Car Service's website, rental fees for their golf carts range from $1,000 to $1,400 a month. The $550,930 budget works out at $45,910 a month.
