Lebron: Rings Shouldn't Matter; Rings Arent As Important In Other Sports

It looks like people are killing him now because he had a chance to take a pay cut to get someone else and didn't. Who really thought Lebron was going to leave money on the table? lol

Shit realistically how often does it happen? Same Laker fans mad about this should've been equally as mad at Kobe last contract he opted into after his Achilles tear that tanked the team for a few years

I think that's a little bit different. I don't think anyone begrudges Lebron getting his payday. The inconsistency between him saying he wants to win now and him taking action that could prevent that is what's got them mad. They think he should be going the Tom Brady and MJ route. They aren't acknowledging that Tom and MJ did that in their primes when they were building their legacies, not when they were on their way out. Also, they are buying into Lebron's BS. I don't believe he's committed to winning. He's just stat padding at this point.

On November 25 2013, Bryant signed a two-year contract extension with the Lakers at an estimated value of $48.5 million.[265] Bryant remained the league's highest-paid player, although he accepted a discounted deal; Bryant had been eligible to receive an extension starting at $32 million per year.[266] His contract became a polarizing topic, with detractors arguing that stars should take less money to allow their team more financial freedom, while supporters countered that the NBA's biggest stars were being paid less than their true value

MJ last years on the Bulls were 3 1 year contracts where he made over 30 million which wasn't a "bargain" in the 90s. That nigga wasn't taking a pay cut and made it clear even back then he was about his money because at that point he didn't fuck with the Bulls management.

At the point 20+ years in still deciding to play when he could easily make that same money elsewhere it's a combination of the money and wanting to win. Because aint no other real reason for his ass to still be playing

Yeah I remember the talk around this because he also had a shoulder injury that limited him and it became alot of "he got a legacy contract and not one for his actual current value to the team" talk.

I'm going to assume the first part of your post was you agreeing with me since I clearly said that MJ wasn't doing that when his career was winding down. That said, he also didn't need to do that his last few years with the Bulls because they were already championship ready. It wouldn't have made sense for him to turn down money under that circumstance. To be fair, while the goal was to make the playoffs not win a championship, you could argue MJ did it for the Wizards. He only took a mill for that contract and then gave it aways to 911 victims.

The other obvious reason is stat padding like I said. He and his cronies make are clear about how important they think him being the scoring champ is to his legacy. The longer he plays the more untouchable that record becomes. I actually don't think he cares that much about winning. He'd love to lead the Lakers to another championship, but I think he knows he can't do it. I'm not sure he wants to get another championship besides someone who is good enough to potentially take the FMVP.

If by the MJ and Brady route you mean taking less in your prime years then he already did that. But the way you worded it seems as if you're referring to the tail ends of their careers and on then it's basically the same. Max out your contract. MJ was underpaid in his prime and maxed out at the end. Same shit with Bron. Took less during his prime years and maxed out at the end.

You cant say he doesn't care much about winning but would love to do it. That's a contradicting statement to use those specific words. If you would love to do something then give the physical tole it takes on NBA players bodies to play a season + the playoffs and in your 40s...there's clearly a high level of love there when he doesn't have to be playing anymore. You could say he loves the records more than winning rings and I'd agree but I think that about majority of NBA star players in history. But to say he doesn't care much about it...the evidence of just the natural grind of a long ass NBA season 20+ years in says otherwise.

I do also think the Lakers are basically stuck in a bad deal. They gave him the contract and he's too old to trade anywhere. And at the end of the season he'll have been a Laker longer than any other team he's played for so there's probably an attachment there too.

To the bold, no it's not. I would love to get a million dollars right now. Who wouldn't? That doesn't mean I care if it happens or not. If I did, I'd be investing or taking other measures to make it happen. That's what I'm saying about Lebron. I'm sure he would love another championship, but I don't think he's willing to sacrifice the way he might need to in order to achieve that.

I get what you're saying, but I disagree. I think a combination of his love for playing basketball and the attention and praise he gets from it is enough to keep him going. Let's be real, most of these dudes don't want to leave the game. They just don't have a choice. Lebron does.

All pro athletes love the attention and praise they get from playing. It's a built in part of the draw of being a pro athlete. But as you said Bron has the choice to keep going when others don't when he could easily stop and still get praise and attention elsewhere unlike some other athletes after they retire.

I don't begrduge any athlete for not taking less money to help the team win. Especially when your value to the team itself far out reaches your actual contract. Thats on the team to figure out not the players.

No disagreements here. I don't fault Bron for that. I also don't fault for Lakers fans and others for saying he's full of shit when declaring that he wants to win but not being willing to sacrifice money that, as you've said, he doesn't really need.

I actually watched this interview. He didn't respond to what the guy actually said which was MJ himself said he doesn't think he could handle the social media age he likes his privacy. Then went on to rant about lebron. Like a true clown why at end of his rant guy said the topic is kd and mj why you talking bout lebron heh...

He also talked about how no one mentions MJ got bounced im 1st round many years before finally winning when those that whipped his ass got old and he basically quit mid career to go play baseball... what KD was saying...

Oh he also said MJ is his goat but the questions are real..

Dude just nonchalantly mentioning that made that rant look even more silly.

Rob bugged out. He should have addressed what was said. It was stupid and needed to be killed.

Just look at the bold. People talk about MJ getting bounced in the first round his first three years. MJ haters and Lebron fans throw it out all the time. Who cares though? He got drafted by a team that hadn't even made the playoffs in like a decade. Nobody expected him to get there and instantly make the team a championship contender by himself. I don't understand why people think that is some kind of dagger against MJ especially in defense of Lebron, when Lebron didn't even make the playoffs his first couple years. Also, it was nasty work from KD to act like MJ quit because he couldn't dedicate himself and not acknowledge that his father was murdered and he went to try and play baseball in honor of his father.

KD taking a shot at MJ's commitment to the game is wild. MJ arguably accomplished more in the game than Lebron and KD combined.

MJ (15 Seasons)
6 Championships
6 FMVPs
5 MVPs

1 DPOY
11 All-NBA Teams
9 All Defense Teams
13 Stat Crowns (10 Scoring, 3 Steals)

14 All Star-Appearances
3 All-Star MVPs

2 All-Star Event Wins (2 Dunk Contests)

Lebron and KD (39 Seasons, Lebron 22, KD 17)
6 Championships (Lebron 4, KD 2)
6 FMVPs (Lebron 4, KD 2)
5 MVPs (Lebron 4, KD 1)

0 DPOY
32 All-NBA Teams (Lebron 21, KD 11)
5 All Defense Teams (Lebron 5, KD 0)
6 Stat Crowns (Lebron Scoring 1 Assists 1, KD Scoring 4)

36 All-Star Appearances
5 All-Star MVPs (Lebron 3, KD 2)

0 All-Star Event Wins

That's legit crazy. Lebron and KD are both era defining players and have both played more years than MJ, and yet MJ still accomplished more than both combined.
