NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani Thread

Zohran Mamdani, the presumptive Democratic nominee for mayor of New York City, has come under attack for what his chief primary rival, former Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, described as extreme views on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. After Mr. Mamdani’s strong performance in the primary on Tuesday, that charge was quickly echoed by other backers of Israel, including Republican allies of President Trump.

Some, including Representative Elise Stefanik of New York, have even accused him of antisemitism and support for terrorists.

New York’s annual parade celebrating Israel has been a standard stop for the state’s politicians for the last 60 years, drawing in governors, senators and everymayor since Robert F. Wagner to pay their respects to the Jewish community.

Now, as Israel’s standing in the United States has fallen precipitously since the Gaza war, New York City Democrats appear likely to nominate a mayoral candidate who does not shy away from his record of anti-Israel activism, underlining an extraordinary departure from past mayors and from current Democratic leadership in Washington.

Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani’s success in the city with the largest Jewish population in the world offered the starkest evidence yet that outspoken opposition to Israel and its government — and even questioning its existence as a Jewish state — is increasingly acceptable to broader swaths of the party, even in areas where pro-Israel Jews have long been a bedrock part of the Democratic coalition.

Some surveys showed Mr. Mamdani winning as many as one in five Jewish Democrats, with supporters including Brad Lander, the city’s comptroller, who also ran for mayor and encouraged his supporters to back Mr. Mamdani through a cross-endorsement. And on Wednesday, Representative Jerrold Nadler, one of the city’s most prominent Jewish leaders, endorsed Mr. Mamdani, saying they would work together “to fight against all bigotry and hate.”

But for other Jews around the country who were already struggling with their place in the progressive movement, Mr. Mamdani’s stunning result confirmed their worst fears about the direction of the American left, fueling a sense that urgent concerns about the community’s safety are being dismissed in a movement and a city that Jews helped build.

I'm not defending socialism at all I agree with u there. But why do u say NYC was getting back on it's feet finally?

As a nation we've been capitalists from inception and life is more unaffordable than it's ever been, with record debts we've never had.
I do business and know plenty up there who are doing well now post-covid. NY's budget issues are a direct result of DeBlasio being trash. Same Mayor who was pushing socialism his 8 years in office, how'd that work out for NY? It's just crazy to me that people want to go back to that except double down with a socialist who's bene working for 3 years in his whole life. 33 years old, no real experience and giving him the keys to city hall is a big ass L.

I think establishment politics made populist campaigns more attractive. I think it's the reason why trump won. People just wanna try something different for better or worse.

aite.. so now that dude is on the main stage.. what are his actual policies? Seems like alotta folks fuck with him and he getting shade from establishment dems and republicans.. They dont "agree" on much publicly but neither seem to like this guy very much lol 👀

Well no, that's bullshit. I make seven figures and didn't grow well off

Typical post-Reagan rationalization lol. "Anyone who isnt as rich as me must be a drug addict or something"

Man I'm tired of conservatives immediately jumping to COMMUNISM HAS NEVER WORKED!! and whining about the Soviet fucking Union whenever a Democratic Socialist proposes the most mild not-communist-at-all reform in the world. You'd think Mamdani was doing land reform or something lol.

As we speak, white ppl and coons are literally bringing THE NAZIS back and you expect me to be shaking in my boots about The Specter of Communism cuz a nigga said he wanna make the buses free?

:hahaha:

The movement behind Zohran was very vocal in being non commited to supporting Kamala in the General Election. This same left wing coalition that is largely led by white people.....now wants Black people to "Fall in line" and support Zohran when months ago in the General, they were more than comfortable sitting out or "Teaching us a lesson" by NOT supporting, endorsing, Kamala.

Keep in mind that these same people are using establishment Dems as a cover to suppress Black people.

Do not get it twisted. Black people are the backbone of the Democratic party. Regardless on where you stand on voting or your politics, Black people ARE the Democratic party. So when these left wingers get on the hoarse about Establishment Dems, what they're really saying is that they don't support the idea of Black people being the backbone of the Democratic party.

Do y'all not remember how all of the "Free Palistene" people were very, very comfortable absolutely thrashing Kamala? These people showed their true colors when a Black woman was on the top of the ticket. Black people have held their noses and voted Blue no matter who, endorsed candidates that people clown us for endorsing, supported ALL Democrats on the top of the ticket. So in the biggest election of our lifetimes, these muthafuckas couldn't hide their true feelings and distain which ultimately led to Orange man being POTUS but now these same muthafuckas are DEMANDING that us Black people FALL IN LINE and support their candidate.

And it's not even that all Black people are super dedicated establishment Dems. This wave we are seeing is right on step with other non-white people who secretly do not like coming in second to Black people.

There's absolutely no reason why any voter that feels Zohran winning is the start of something or a shift, couldn't even support Kamala Harris in the General Election.

Think about that. We're talking about the Mayor of NYC. His politics do not go outside of the jurisdiction of NYC but you have an entire movement trying to DEMAND that Black people FALL IN LINE but they couldn't do the same when it 100% mattered more in the General Election.

This was regarding the 2024 General Election. This is how he truly felt when a Black woman was on top of the ticket and Black livelihood was ON THE LINE in the last election.

What are we really talking about here?

tell me again how these shots at the Democratic party or Establishment Dems is NOT a DIRECT shot at Black people................

I will honestly listen my niggas........................

And before you ask, replace Kamal with literally any other Black candidate in 2024 and these people would've had the same exact stance.

This isn't me worshipping Kamala. This is me, a Black person, being smart enough to know when a muthafucka really doesn't fuck with US...........

Are y'all not seeing this? They do not fuck with us. They relied on us to carry the party for decades. They loudly turned their back on US and now they want us to GET ON CODE (lolololololololol) or FALL IN LINE behind their movement?

Why?

Bruh I hear all that but the Kamala stuff is done now gotta move forward. A lot of folks don’t trust the Dems right now because they seem weak and it could just be media painting it that way but we barely see them talk about less support for Israel. If this guy is a socialist type and we all know how cost of living has gone up Trump and then want to cancel benefits and all that and it looks like the Dems just not fighting back enough. Again could be a media thing or maybe we ask too much.

And a lot of progressive people or even hippies as they used to be called had an issue with Democrat presidents bombing shit and supporting Israel. They may be viewed as the third party type of people. But let me ask who you think is good Democratic candidate for president after this term? It seem like they have nobody that standing out and a lot of folks under 40 are viewing the whole party as weak.

NYC to me is not displacing black Dems and most folks countrywide ain’t as blue as NYC

Bruh I hear all that but the Kamala stuff is done now gotta move forward.

We should never feel this way when the main subjects being effected are Black people. We never have to move forward after 9/11 or the Holocust, but for Slavery? Yeah we are always told to move forward.....................

A lot of folks don’t trust the Dems right now because they seem weak and it could just be media painting it that way but we barely see them talk about less support for Israel.

Who are the people telling you that the Dems are weak? The literally have no power in Congress, because Republicans have the House, Senate, SCOTUS, and the White House. What exactly are people trying to convey when they tell you that the party that holds no power at any political juncture looks weak? This is like people telling you that a team that is missing its entire starting 5 looks bad. No shit. They don't have any starters available. Be weary of people that like to peddle and lean on the Dems looking weak talking point..............

If this guy is a socialist type and we all know how cost of living has gone up Trump and then want to cancel benefits and all that and it looks like the Dems just not fighting back enough. Again could be a media thing or maybe we ask too much.

Again, what exactly are you expecting from the party that holds no political power? The Uncommitted movement literally sought to weaken Democrats to the point where, they hold no power. So now that Dems don't hold any power, people are saying that they're not fighting back? This is like a kid letting all of his friends eating all of the food at his parents house and then complaining to his parents that he doesn't like it here because they don't have shot to eat and trying to make his parents look bad.

But let me ask who you think is good Democratic candidate for president after this term? It seem like they have nobody that standing out and a lot of folks under 40 are viewing the whole party as weak.

Anybody looking for the perfect or right candidate is playing the game wrong and missing the larger point..........

Every single political movement in this country is designed to suppress Black people. They are either built on racism or rooted in jealousy against Black people. None of these "POC" movements can stand on their own. They have to hijack Black movements and ride our co-tails and they are always just white enough when it gets too hot in the kitchen.

Does it matter who the Democratic candidate is? Has it ever mattered who the Republican candidate is? No, because they're entire political establishment is rooted in white supremacy and anti-Blackness.

But when it comes to Democrats, all of a sudden the candidate has to meet certain criteria?

Why?

That's because the backbone of the Democratic party is Black people and no matter what any of y'all niggas think politically, this country can never let Black people get what we want. Then niggas will turn around and talk endlessly about how terrible our candidates are. Nigga, that is by design............

Black people have a;ways had to make concessions. No other griup has tpo do that. The worst whote person can run for whatever office. A "POC" can position themselves as an achitecht of change and ride the Black wave and bring their people along with them.

Then niggas think that complaining about this and pointing it out makes them look? What is it that niggas who do this are trying to accomplish? These are the types of niggas that have so much shit to say about why we are where we are politically but we don't need a fucking Read Baby Read book report. Any nigga that has been halfway paying attention knows exactly what I'm saying but these days, the Black political commentary has been reduced to bare minimums like niggas thinking that they are dropping knowledge by resorting to attacking and blaming Black people for the shit that other people are doing and taking advantage of us with.

Isn’t this the same stance the Muslims for Trump and other groups took during the election period based on the Gaza genocide

That they all now regret?
