Good thing CP3 didn’t win rings so there won’t be what if Olympics in a couple years with him and Deron
Kobe and TMad was definitely on par with each other for a few years.
He’s right. Ring culture isn’t as dominant in other sports than it is in the NBA:
Dan Marino - One of THE greatest to ever play QB….no SB rings. Only made it to the Bowl once. Still held in high regard, over a lot of QBs that do have titles.
Barry Bonds - Pretty much THE greatest hitter that ever played baseball, Roids or not. Never won a WS title. Held in higher regard than 98% of MLB players.
Reynaldo - Never won a World Cup. Still Top 5 DOA in the eyes of millions of soccer players.
AI - Probably still the pound-for-pound king, even without an NBA title. More celebrated than many champions that were his contemporaries during his generation.
Besides: if ring culture was the end-all-be-all, BILL RUSSELL would forever be the king.
But we’re not ready for THAT conversation either.

Rest In Power to the true titan of the NBA.
Everytime I've heard the GOAT conversations pertaining to the NBA...folks always start off wit Jordan and LeBron. Bill being mentioned is an afterthought.
It's like the platform that Bill Russell set is so high...he gets mentioned on some "I mean yeah of course but we talkin bout Jordan and LeBron" type deal.
But Bron in that video...is a man who's at the tail-end of his NBA career, and realizing he's not gonna catch Jordan. I mean yeah he got the other stats and etc...but he knows the rings is what's at the top of the list when it comes to GOAT.
Bron: "Yeah Jordan got 6, but are the rings really that big of a deal?"
Also Bron: "Not 4...not 5...not 6..."
He know it matters. But like how some of yall mentioned...its him trying to change the narrative...again.
Most - if not, ALL - people didn't see Babe Ruth play, yet they still rank him as the GOAT in many people's eyes. This is all a cop-out.When it comes to Bill and Wilt, there are two issues. The first is the fact that most people having the GOAT conversations nowadays never saw them play. The second is they cancel out some of each other's greatness. You look at MJ, he was the greatest winner of his era, had the best stats, and racked up the most accolades. So it's hard to justify putting either Bill or Wilt above him. Yeah, Bill was a better winner, but MJ is basically second behind him, was the undisputed best on his team for all of his wins, and put up better stats. Wilt is the stat god, but MJ is right behind him when it comes to scoring, but MJ won much more. MJ has more accolades than both though that needs an asterisk since some of those accolades didn't exist when they played.

I told you what happens anytime the basketball God gets involved....the goalposts don't get move, they get uprooted.
You can't penalize one great for saying "he didn't play when I was alive" but reward another for it like Ruth. Either they're the greatest of all-time, or they aren't. That counts to the parts you weren't there for. I'm not arrogant enough to keep the history of sports to my lifetime, knowing those league started 40 years before I was even born.
You also can't you "cancel out" anyone when Russell has better numbers than Wilt except scoring....and of course, rings. 11 to 2....Not even a contest. THAT's why Bill's rings matter more: he had to go through Wilt virtually EVERY year (West, too) to get them.
Ight this shit is mad dumbOn another note, I got a question for all the Lebron fans. How do ya'll do it? I get being a fan of a dude because of his game and being able to separate that from the man. I'm a fan of MJ the basketball player, but I can freely admit that MJ the human being is an asshole. That said, at some point, can't a person become so insufferable that you won't rock with them on any level? It seems to me Lebron should have reached that level for most people a long time ago.
Just look at the subject of this topic. This dude literally has a whole podcast dedicated to propaganda for his GOAT case. It's supposed to be about Xs and Os, but really, it's just him tackling every criticism he's received and trying to gaslight about history. Do ya'll know how many times he's thrown his teammates under the bus on that podcast? Who can rock with a dude like that?
Ight this shit is mad dumb
So you telling im supposed to to have problems with lebron actually defending himself with a single podcast when he’s been attacked by millions to the point the internet is riddled with bron hate bots for decades…
Just imply supposed to dislike him for no reasons and disregard all the positive things he’s done as opposed to Jordan who’s a legit asshole and raised a wicked out coke head for a son who fucks he’s former teammates wife like what are we really talking about about here.
And let get to this bullshit narrative of throwing teamates under the bus, before wade and Bosh he spent mad time playing with the absolute shittiest lineups and taking them well past where they was supposed to be to be even when he got allstar team mates they why either old or beginning to fall apart
Wade was hurt through the run
Bosh had to retire a year later
Luka fat and hurt
Ad always hurt
He never played with anybody important next to there peak level if you think about it
LOL @ you thinking Bill’s shutdowns of Wilt should all just be stats.Wilt Chamberlain - 30.1 pts, 22.9 rebs, 4.4 asts, 54.0 FG%, 51.1 FT%
Bill Russell - 15.1 pts, 22.5 rebs, 4.3 asts, 44.0 FG%, 56.1 FT%
Wilt was better in every statistical category (stls and blks weren't recorded back then) except FT% and both them niggas were trash in that regard.
So you were deadass wrong with the one part of your post that could be factually argued.
What you don't seem to understand is that when people say they can judge players they didn't see play, they are trying to be fair to those players. If we just go by numbers, Bill Russell looks like a great rebounder and nothing else. Nobody in their right mind would take a dude with that stat line and mention him in the GOAT convo. You and others want him up there because he's the greatest winner ever, but you don't want to acknowledge that that he also had the most talented teams relative to the rest of the league ever and wasn't even always the best on his own team.
Respect to Bill for all his accomplishments and who and what he was on and off the court, but based on the data we actually have dude probably wouldn't even scratch top 5 greatest centers let alone GOAT status.
LOL @ you thinking Bill’s shutdowns of Wilt should all just be stats.
They don’t call Russell THE greatest defensive player of all time just for rebounds. All those defensive possessions he helped stopped - even against Wilt - wouldn’t show up on a stat sheet.
But if you need numbers, here’s another for you:
5.
The same amount of MVPs as Mike. Back when the PLAYERS voted on the award.
TRUE hoopers know.
Stop slandering Bill. Let his soul rest they way is should: as one of the GOATs of this game and this sport.
