That metric is stupid. That said, people have to stop throwing up role players when the discussion is about all-time greats. When you're talking about the best of the best, there are certain metrics you can use to judge because everything else is so close. People like Draymond and Robert Horry aren't even in those discussions, so those metrics don't apply for them.
 
Good thing CP3 didn’t win rings so there won’t be what if Olympics in a couple years with him and Deron

Everytime I've heard the GOAT conversations pertaining to the NBA...folks always start off wit Jordan and LeBron. Bill being mentioned is an afterthought.

It's like the platform that Bill Russell set is so high...he gets mentioned on some "I mean yeah of course but we talkin bout Jordan and LeBron" type deal.

But Bron in that video...is a man who's at the tail-end of his NBA career, and realizing he's not gonna catch Jordan. I mean yeah he got the other stats and etc...but he knows the rings is what's at the top of the list when it comes to GOAT.

Bron: "Yeah Jordan got 6, but are the rings really that big of a deal?"

Also Bron: "Not 4...not 5...not 6..."

He know it matters. But like how some of yall mentioned...its him trying to change the narrative...again.

When it comes to Bill and Wilt, there are two issues. The first is the fact that most people having the GOAT conversations nowadays never saw them play. The second is they cancel out some of each other's greatness. You look at MJ, he was the greatest winner of his era, had the best stats, and racked up the most accolades. So it's hard to justify putting either Bill or Wilt above him. Yeah, Bill was a better winner, but MJ is basically second behind him, was the undisputed best on his team for all of his wins, and put up better stats. Wilt is the stat god, but MJ is right behind him when it comes to scoring, but MJ won much more. MJ has more accolades than both though that needs an asterisk since some of those accolades didn't exist when they played.

Most - if not, ALL - people didn't see Babe Ruth play, yet they still rank him as the GOAT in many people's eyes. This is all a cop-out.

I told you what happens anytime the basketball God gets involved....the goalposts don't get move, they get uprooted.

You can't penalize one great for saying "he didn't play when I was alive" but reward another for it like Ruth. Either they're the greatest of all-time, or they aren't. That counts to the parts you weren't there for. I'm not arrogant enough to keep the history of sports to my lifetime, knowing those league started 40 years before I was even born.

You also can't you "cancel out" anyone when Russell has better numbers than Wilt except scoring....and of course, rings. 11 to 2....Not even a contest. THAT's why Bill's rings matter more: he had to go through Wilt virtually EVERY year (West, too) to get them.

Wilt Chamberlain - 30.1 pts, 22.9 rebs, 4.4 asts, 54.0 FG%, 51.1 FT%
Bill Russell - 15.1 pts, 22.5 rebs, 4.3 asts, 44.0 FG%, 56.1 FT%

Wilt was better in every statistical category (stls and blks weren't recorded back then) except FT% and both them niggas were trash in that regard.
So you were deadass wrong with the one part of your post that could be factually argued.

What you don't seem to understand is that when people say they can judge players they didn't see play, they are trying to be fair to those players. If we just go by numbers, Bill Russell looks like a great rebounder and nothing else. Nobody in their right mind would take a dude with that stat line and mention him in the GOAT convo. You and others want him up there because he's the greatest winner ever, but you don't want to acknowledge that that he also had the most talented teams relative to the rest of the league ever and wasn't even always the best on his own team.

Respect to Bill for all his accomplishments and who and what he was on and off the court, but based on the data we actually have dude probably wouldn't even scratch top 5 greatest centers let alone GOAT status.

Look man, I'm not here to change the minds of dudes who are drunk from drinking Lebron's bathwater. I mean, you're bringing up Bosh retiring early as proof that he somehow wasn't a great while he played with Lebron even though he retired because of a blood clotting problem that wasn't even an issue until after Lebron left the Heat.

You're claiming that he never played with anyone at their peak level even though Wade literally finished 3rd in MVP votes the year before Lebron joined up with him. There are many people that would argue that Wade was the better player on the Heat that first year and he was definitely the Heat's best player in the 2011 Finals, so how can you claim he wasn't at peak. He was battled injury for some of that time. For example, he only played 69 games in the 2012/2013 season, but he still put up 21 pts, 5 rebs, 5 asts a game that season and the team won the championship that year. That's kinda the level of help you expect from a number 2 player. Ya'lls heads are so mixed up that you're thinking that Lebron was at a disadvantage because he wasn't playing with a number 2 that was putting up the same numbers he was. It's crazy.

You said a whole lot of nothing. The argument is not about whether or not Russell was a great player. Everyone knows that. The point I made was and still is that there are weaknesses to the argument for Russell as the GOAT that everyone acknolwedges. That's why he's not frequently put in the discussion despite winning 11 championships. At the end of the day players like MJ Kareem have a better combination of winning, stats, and accolades than Russell. That's why they are routinely placed above him.
