Lebron: Rings Shouldn't Matter; Rings Arent As Important In Other Sports

Well you do expect that everyone's goal is to win a title. So when you have great players that never win a title, it makes you question their prowess if others won more than them. This is the issue with good players getting stuck with bad franchises.

I don't watch other sports as much, but its clear in the NBA that not all of the owners are actively trying to win as much as they just want to sell tickets or make a profit. Even the Lakers do this despite usually trying to win (post bubble title).

The NBA is the worst at marketing teams compared to their marketing of individuals. The small market issue isn't nearly as often a topic in other sports because individual markets seem to matter still.
(post bubble title).

It's always mattered but it has become more of a way to color somebody's entire career more to a detriment than a compliment. Even for players who've won a ring or multiple rings the conversation around them can turn into what they haven't done instead of appreciating what they have done

He’s right. Ring culture isn’t as dominant in other sports than it is in the NBA:

Dan Marino - One of THE greatest to ever play QB….no SB rings. Only made it to the Bowl once. Still held in high regard, over a lot of QBs that do have titles.

Barry Bonds - Pretty much THE greatest hitter that ever played baseball, Roids or not. Never won a WS title. Held in higher regard than 98% of MLB players.

Reynaldo - Never won a World Cup. Still Top 5 DOA in the eyes of millions of soccer players.

AI - Probably still the pound-for-pound king, even without an NBA title. More celebrated than many champions that were his contemporaries during his generation.

Besides: if ring culture was the end-all-be-all, BILL RUSSELL would forever be the king.

But we’re not ready for THAT conversation either.

Rest In Power to the true titan of the NBA.

Nobody considers any of the people you listed the goat. Tom Brady is the Goat because he wins. Messi/Pele are considered goats of soccer. Bonds isn't even in the hall of fame.
Bonds isn’t in the HOF due to the Balco trial, not cause he didn’t win a ring.

Ken Griffey Jr. never once made it to a World Series, yet was a first-ballad HOFamer.
