Like Spike Lee don't keep the same rotating cast in alot of his movies
He don’t lean on one single guy through all his movies though

But my issue is coogler has franchises and MBJ so I need him to either make movies without MBJ or make more originals to really judge him fully

As far as the Box Office goes, Coogler has decimated Spike.

If you compared all the movies that Spike has ever directed, produced, written, or acted in, the total worldwide earnings were between 1.8 and 1.9B

Coogler earned more than 2B off the two Black Panther movies alone.

If you're talking about quality of the movies, that's more subjective. I've enjoyed Coogler's more, but that's because he's made more movies in genres I like.
Sales should never be a factor..

Besides Spike kicked down doors that are open for Cooglers to walk through

Spike kicked down doors for sure, but ain't that many people that could do what Coogler did regardless of the doors being open.

And while I don't think sales are the end all-be all, but having blockbusters under your belt compared mostly just cult classics means something.

Not worth the argument to compare who's better but I hope Coogler puts MBJ on a similar path Spike put Denzel on.

So the MCU and Rocky franchises don't have any flops?

You going to take credit from him as if him even getting the call to be apart of those franchises isn't an accomplishment in itself?
I’m just simply speaking to using the box office as a metric

It shouldn’t be used in this situation

You’re also conflating getting picked to do movies apart of a franchise and box office numbers as one point imo

I don't see how you can ignore box office as a metric. Not every director can put out a blockbuster movie. Ya'll talking like they could have gotten any black director to do BP and it would have been just as good and just as big. I don't believe that. Take Coogler off that movie and it might have been The Dark World.

As far as getting picked to do movies and box office, I think they are two different points that feed together. Coogler got picked to do an MCU movie. That in itself is an accomplishment. His movie turned out to be a colossal hit, which means that he surpassed expectations which is another accomplishment.

I'm not saying any of that makes him better than Spike, but I don't think you can just ignore it like it doesn't matter. At the end of the day, as great as Spike is, they wasn't about to tap him to direct Terminator 2 or Godfather 3.

Spike Lee not exactly the type of guy you would want to tap for a franchise movie

He woulda had MBJ kill every white person on screen in black panther lol
