I don't even know where to start with this, so I'll just spit ball some shit.

  1. Chicks can want to look sexy if they want, but by definition that means dressing in a way that evokes "sexual thoughts." If there are people that these women don't want seeing them in that way, wouldn't it make more sense to be more selective about who gets to see them look that way?
  2. You can't control what other people think, do, or say. All you can control is how you present yourself. The best way to avoid undesired responses from people is to avoid doing things that elicit such responses. If you don't want to be seen as a sexual object, don't promote yourself as such. Is that really such a crazy concept?
  3. There's a pretty big difference between a woman putting up wholesome pics from an event in her life and dude saying some sexual shit and a chick putting up a pic with her ass hanging out and a dude commenting on her ass. In the first case, yes, I believe the woman has the right to be offended. In the second case, not so much. That's just my opinion.
  4. I'm not saying that women have to dress a certain way to get respect. I am saying that certain actions will elicit expected responses. When women put their body on display, I don't understand how it's not seen as a foreseeable consequence that people will inevitably comment on their bodies?
 
She's young.
She's very attractive.
She's very famous.
She's not going to have it all together and be extremely savvy in all this marketing and PR.

She wanna look cute n sexy when she's in an environment for it, and still be taken seriously when she's in a professional setting like an interview.

It's a difficult balance, especially for a black woman. Damn near ever major black female athlete gotta deal with shit like this on some level..

Shit Jamie Foxx did a whole set about Serena Williams ass during an awards show, and we just had to laugh it off.

It's sad, and it's one of the main challenges they face. I'm pretty sure she'll improve at it going forward... But in the meantime.. We should absolutely keep our foot on the neck of a nigga like Shaq who been around long enough to knows how ridiculous being a celebrity/athlete is

I never asked that question. I've said Shaq was wrong from the start. I have pointed out that he's a known lecher, so such a response isn't out of character for him, but I never claimed that him saying that shit was expected "because he's a man."

I can point out that "Damn, look at that ass" is a natural response to a chick posting a pic of her ass without believing it's ok for a dude in a mentor position to bring up his mentee's ass even when he knows it makes her uncomfortable.

Ok... I went back and re-watched that lil clip that was posted:

He said "Imagine if you in them same lil shorts you had on at the Wild 'n Out show, dunking. You know how many tee shirts you gone sell?"

It's pretty much a stretch to call this "sexual". He spoke on something that actually happened: She had her ass hanging out on a TV show. And, he related that to how wearing that same or a similar outfit while dunking during a game would get people to pay attention to the league and would move merch... Which it would.

And don't sit here and act like y'all niggas don't suddenly pay attention to women's track events and beach volleyball when the Olympics roll around. You don't give nary a fuck about the shit until you see some shit like this on your screens:

Shaq's comment, while certainly crass and prolly should have been kept in his head, spoke to a larger point that shit like that would sell; it would bring an audience which, in turn, would generate revenue for the league. Think about it this way: The NWFL football league went the way of the dodo bird after only 7 seasons, ending in 2009. Most people in this country probably didn't even know the shit existed. The only reason I even know the league existed is because an old classmate/coworker of mine played in the league. Meanwhile, lingerie football is still going and went international. Why do you think that is??? The women playing in the NWFL and other such leagues played competent football, just like the WNBA teams play solid, technical basketball. But those football leagues died and the WNBA is only around because it's propped up by the NBA, otherwise that shit would have had an even shorter run than the NWFL.

What Shaq said was factually accurate when you take it all in context. But considering the climate, he shouldn't have said it, even in jest.

The last part. You say that like women don’t know the responses they might get. I think they all do. But the main issue with Angel Reese is she views Shaq a certain way. An uncle type figure is a different layer. I’m not dismissing your logic at all.

And mini skirts have always been considered sexual since their introduction in this country in the mid-20th century. When they were introduced, a mini skirt was just above the knee, not just below the ass cheeks so there's definitely a difference between then and now. Shit, wearing one like chicks do nowadays back in the 50's-70's would get a chick locked up for indecent exposure so, yeah, mini skirts have always been considered sexual.

From actually speaking with women it's not that they're not aware of the commentary that will come from some with wearing certain things. It's when it's used to demean and or boil down their entire being to that outfit. And also when the comments aren't just comments and lead to people thinking they now have and or are deserving of some access to their bodies.

You can see the break between the jacket and the skirt. And even if...that pic is very tame. If seeing a leg and some thigh got you reacting like Martin seeing Ms. Trinidad then as the theme of this thread has shown some niggas need to work on their self control.
