A little off topic but at what age do you guys or would you guys suggest trying to get kids to open up?
To be honest, it’s not up to you, it’s up to them. Just be a genuine nice guy and trustworthy.

Part of my job is getting to know what going on with kids on home. They open up to their coach more than anybody else a lot of the time.

If something going on at home with their parents they will not tell anyone but they would open up to their coach.

They tell us look for certain signs for physical and sexual abuse.

The kids I work with trust me and come to talk to.

I doubt I'd fight my son either. He just got into wrestling.. so he might be a bit of a challenge when he get into those upper teens and 20's... But I'm my position and my ability to deescalate situations, I don't think we'll ever get there

If it came to it, would you duff em up, stand over him like the rock?

I was more talking your own kids or relatives. But respect sounds like the kids you work with are in good hands.
