Rumor: 'The New Mutants' Delay Due to Expansive Reshoots

Many fans were disappointed earlier today when 20th Century Fox revealed they were delaying two X-Men movies well into next year.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix was originally scheduled to release this November before being pushed back to February 14, 2019, while The New Mutants was pushed back from its original April 13th date, to February 22, 2019, and again to later in the year on August 2nd.

A new report from Collider provided an explanation for these delays, and while they are somewhat expected and reasonable for the X-Men movie, The New Mutants is in a much different and more interesting situation.

This was to be the first year that Fox would put out three X-Men based movies in the same 12-month span, starting with The New Mutants. That movie was pushed back initially after the success of Stephen King's It and other horror movies, with the genre having a banner year in 2017. Executives sought to make the film scarier, despite the movie testing well with audiences.

This comes in the wake of the success of Deadpool and Logan, which offered different flavors in the superhero genre, while the X-Men movies remained the flagship with a more familiar take on the franchise.

The report from Collider states that director Josh Boone delivered a cut of the film he was satisfied with, but Fox execs want the movie to standout and apparently didn't think it was scary enough.

Apparently Fox is demanding substantial reshoots that could change the movie, including the possibility of reshooting unto 50 percent of footage that was already filmed. They could possibly add multiple new characters to be included throughout the film's entirety, in addition to the core cast of Magik, Mirage, Wolfsbane, Sunspot, and Cannonball.

The report also goes on to state Boone has had significant creative differences with Fox over their requests to change the film, though there has been no word on the possibility if he could be replaced as the production roles on. In the wake of the turmoil that has rocked movies like Solo: A Star Wars Story and Justice League, this might not be the best move.

This is much more intriguing than the reasons for the X-Men: Dark Phoenix delay, as Sophie Turner's schedule is going to be dominated by filming the final season of Game of Thrones for most of the year. Given that she's playing the pivotal character of Jean Grey, Fox needs to work around her availability.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix and X-verse spinoff The New Mutants have been delayed, Variety reports.

Dark Phoenix has been pushed back from its November 2 release date to February 14, 2019. The New Mutants — which already shifted from its planned April 13, 2018 bow to February 22, 2019 — will now open August 2, 2019.

Read: They both suck and we have to re-shoot the shit to compensate. Has a movie ever had its release pushed back and not sucked?

Fox is over doing it audiences liked New Mutants already. The heads at fox are forcing the director to add more horror elements and Dark Phoenix is pushed back because the main chick is filming Game of Thrones right now.

Yes. Add more characters. This worked out fantastically for Spider-Man 3. I remember when Mush Face and Snagglepuss kept dragging feet about signing up for additional movies, so they ended up throwing all the damn villains for the next 3 or 4 movies into that clusterfuck. Different studio but Fox can't do shit right.

Yeah i was excited for New Mutants already, now im afraid that the reshoots will ruin it especially if the Director isnt very willing to go through with it. Pretty crazy it was due to release soon but got pushed back almost a year.

Meh. The Phoenix Saga was one of if not the best X-men stories. That said my favorite X-men story was Age of Apocalypse. After seeing what they did with that, I'm not exactly amped to see the Phoenix movie.

I fux with the arc of assassinating Prof. X. I think it was Gambit who went back in time with the help of another mutant who had the gift of time travel.

Do all the tribes have their own warrior like panther? I read in the comics that man ape got super powers from killing the white gorilla and eating it or something. I don't think he's as strong as BP, but he's at least a worthy challenge. Would be cool if the other tribes have a powered warrior too
That would be a trill sequel, to have the tribes warring with each other. Showcasing each tribes background, fighting styles, and "gifts" unique to the tribe

They aren't super powered, but yeah.

I assumed each of those people who conceded the challenge, including Nakia and Wakabi, were their respective tribe's best warriors.

It would interesting if each tribe had a special way they used vibranium except the Jabari tribe who had a special kind of wood nh

M'Baku does he killed and ate an ancient Wakandan white gorilla and gained emhanced strength, speed, agility and durability like T'Challa has from the Panther. That could be one story element since they did show him in the throne room at the end when T'Challa got the throne back.
PETA would picket in front of every theatre in the US lol

It's a different time yea but that's from the original stories lol. Just have to keep it simple and say that when they grow new herbs since the vibranium is in the soil he just takes one in secret I guess lol.

Sticking to the subject of MCU here's some ideas I would like to see in the black panther sequel:

Black panthers hover bike
A story inspired by the enemy of the state issues from the '98 Christopher priest run
Achebe as the main villain
n the white wolf and the war dogs as supporting villains
A brief appearance bynkraven the hunter
An after credits scene of killmonger back from the dead thanks to the resurrection alter
Brother voodu in a possible sequel
Perhapsma sequel based on Reginald hudlands works.
