Prominent Actor Taraji P. Henson breaks out crying mid interview when discussing her financial situation and pay she receives as an accomplished actor

Amy Schumer is bigger (#bars ironically) than Monique so of course she'll get more money. Sitcho black ass down ma'am

Niggas ain't checking for Monique. She need to cut it out!

i have no idea how valid moniques claims are, but she does not fit in well with hollywood...

she beefs with movie producers, and directors all the time..she claims she being blackballed outta hollywood.....

which if true or not, is going to limit her exposure and her demand....

the fact that netflix was even considering her given that no body else will...according to her...

i don't know how smart it is to immediately throw them under the bus as well by calling for a boycott....

like i said, shorty gotta lotta enemies...

lol plz...nigga wont even stop watching football just to show respect for a man who forfeited his livelihood for them, u think niggas gonna stop netflix and chilling lmao anyway u get paid what u negotiate

Seems like this could have been handled better by Monique and her team... dah well

i feel you, but nobody is checking for monique

she should've taken the bag for her first standup, then if it did the numbers, renegotiate for the next special

she need to humble herself

Amy is wack but whites like her....which equals sales

Monique had some funny shit in her time but it just wouldnt have an impact right now....plus her comedy is kinda for one group of people....she built the box she's being put in

she should go ahead and start a lil small town tour while she's still got a name

no hate just gotta be real at this point

Why is it that every time she takes one of these vocal moral stances it's always something related to her money or career? When's the last time you heard Monique being vocal about an issue that doesn't effect her personally?

She has every right to demand whatever she thinks she's worth but she really shouldn't be trying to dress it up as if she's being some kind of black crusader.

Her comparisons are delusional, btw - Netflix, like any company, plans to make their money back when they pay people. Paying Mo'nique Dave Chapelle money is the kind of shit that would get multiple people fired.

she should have took the 500k and flipped it into more opportunities for herself outside of Hollywood......don't know her business but outside of Netflix, I dont see alot of companies or people in Hollywood giving her that type of bag

The funny thing is how her examples invalidate her argument...

If it's gender bias why did they pay Amy Schumer so much?

And if it's color bias why did they pay Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle so much?

Word. They paid 2 black men more than a white woman.

1) I love Monique and would gladly watch a new special from her. I still quote queens of comedy to this day.

2) why didn't she negotiate the pay for herself rather than ask about what Amy Schumer was doing. They came to you so clearly they want you. You coulda did what Dave Chapelle did and work out a deal for more specials and asked for more based on how the first one did.

3) why are you telling us this when you coulda took this offer and used it for leverage with another network...possibly hbo since they been giving minorities hella shine lately.

Smh she didn't go about this smart at all

To be fair, a few years ago Wanda Sykes was supposed to do a special for Netflix and they lowballed her. She took her talents to epix and dropped a special there. She just did a special that came out on netflix a few months ago, which I'm sure was for a bigger bag.

This is what monique coulda did. Work only recognize work.

What I said from the jump imean she acting like this was whensje was doing apollo or that anyone was a eagerly awaiting a special from her
She should have took the bullshit built then got the cash

That's just some responses from the first 2 pages of a 38 page thread.

Building an Empire: how Fox’s hip-hop drama broke a 23-year-old ratings record

Empire is the only show since 1992 to have its ratings rise for its first five episodes. Credit the network’s targeting of an African American audience

“Do you remember 1992? The top sitcom was Roseanne, the Redskins won the Super Bowl, and it was the last time that a new show rose in the ratings each episode for the first five weeks it aired. Empire, Fox’s Shakespearean-flavoured hip-hop drama, beat that record last Wednesday. The crazy thing is that Nielsen, the company that tracks the ratings, changed their system in 1991, so the record might go back even further. “

”Empire has bucked the trend of how network television shows usually rate. They are so hyped by the network that everyone tunes in for the premiere. After that, the audience tends to decline before levelling out after a few episodes. That is not the case for Empire, which had 9.9 million viewers for its first episode at the beginning of January. (It also had a higher rating in the coveted 18-to-49 demographic than its lead-in, the former juggernaut American Idol.) The most recent episode, last Wednesday, saw 11.96 million tune in, up from around 11.5 million the week before. To make it even more desirable to Fox, the show averages about 15 million viewers each week once DVR viewership is factored in. That makes it one of the top shows on all of TV

Why didn't yall show Monique this same love when she was going at Netflix for lowballing her? Where was this empathy then?

You're right. Looking back Monique probably deserved more empathy than she got cuz it's clear she was dealing with the same low ball shit we're discussing in here.

At the same time, she wasnt even on the road touring any comedy specials at the time and was expecting the same as Chappelle or Amy Schumers wack ass. I remember something about many other comics putting up their own bread to film their specials as well and then selling it to Netflix(or whoever wants to buy it) and she didnt do that either if I remember correctly.

Not apples to apples but both things can be true. The industry still lowballs black artists AND Monique overplayed her hand at the time

What did Monique do, she knew her worth and walked away from the offer

What did she do, she knew her worth and walked away from the offer

pretty sure she went back to on the road touring like people were saying she should do and came back to the table afterwards. Like I said it aint really apples to apples. A comic can go tour and still make a living. If every studio is low balling black actors/actresses, whats their equivalent of touring? Plays maybe?

Didn't know this, she already lost
Since Benjamin button it’s been Tyler Perry movies, Kevin Hart/will Packer movies, hidden figures, and a Netflix movie

In that same time frame Zoe saldana has been in

2 Avatar movies
3 Star Trek movies
3 Guardians of the Galaxy movies
2 Avengers movies

:js4:
