Prominent Actor Taraji P. Henson breaks out crying mid interview when discussing her financial situation and pay she receives as an accomplished actor

It is easy when you’re already living a life of luxury.

She ain’t struggling, she ain’t missing a meal.

It’s very much easy for someone like her
Imagine getting low balled everytime you were up for a new position or raise in your career. At some point you would become frustrated too. Luxurious life or not I'm going to expect a company to me what I'm worth.

Letitia Wright and Lupita but thats clearly a rare occurrence unfortunately
Even then they headlined a movie that was built off of the back of a black man and a black director.

And what’s crazier is the whole thing was circumstantial. It wasn’t intentional in the least.

And you still haven’t named a black woman that’s headlined a blockbuster. It’s cool though, continue to blame TPH for not taking a stand instead of the system for freezing them out.

And there’s a difference between gross income and disposable income. You don’t know who she taking care of and what expenses she has.

More importantly, why should she (and black women in general) have to work 3x as hard to enjoy the same benefits as their white counterparts?

That’s irrelevant to my point

Like somebody else said. Shes waiting on white folks to do something. So she’s the fool.

Black folks make movies all the time with their own money.

She want white folks to use their money and since they are not doing that.

She can’t headline a movie BTW. No white women can either unless it’s some franchise that’s already built.

That’s the thing. You’re talent/worth is whatever somebody else is willing to pay.

She’s the one taking those deals instead of taking a stand.

She’s not hurting and have the means to take a stand on what she believe

Can’t compare her field of work to any of ours

Exactly. As if black people in corporate America aren’t constantly complaining about the same thing. I don’t know why people wouldn’t expect those in Hollywood to do the same. Just because the scale is different doesn’t make it any less frustrating or difficult to take a stand about.

I'd say Zoe Saldana has a better argument to say she's underpaid considering she's in multiple billion dollar franchise movies and will continue to do so with Avatar

Zendaya is blowing up. She's got her own movie coming out next year I think plus she's got Dune and Spiderman

Bailey Bass left Interview With the Vampire to star in the billion dollar franchise movies Avatar

Of course she’s underpaid compared to whites

She has to take that stand though.

That’s all I’m saying

Barbie
Harley Quinn
Tomb Raider
Twilight
Legally Blonde
Clueless
Hunger Games
Alien
Kill Bill
Mamma Mia
Steel Magnolias
Thelma and Louise

Shall I continue?

And miss me with the waiting on white folk’s when she’s being criticized for her roles in black movies.

You’re naming a franchise and or books that have a following regardless

Clueless was a group of women
T&L cmon bruh. Didn’t bring in big money

Break each one down and your get your answer.

You really got Barbie, Harley Quinn, Tomb Raider, and Twlight on there. I’m fucking dying laughing at you naming them.

Who said she doesn't take a stand?? She said everytime she has to negotiate she gets low balled then fight to get what she believes is fair. She shouldn't have to fight every single time there is an offer on the table. So clearly in end she's getting paid, but why does she have to go through that over and over??

Again she's not the only actress who talks about this issue....

Until they all take a stand, nothing will change is all I’m saying.

You seem hell bent on making excuses with no solutions. I know black people who make their own shit without Hollywood. Heres a reality check. Everybody ain't gone make it, but those who do put in the work and invest in themselves. My examples proved that and yet you still miss the point. I am currently invested in a black animated/comic business which raised money through crowdfunding.

No you missed the point.

Lol, Kathleen Kennedy, the woman behind LucasFilms, first movie she ever produced was fucking ET. She came from being a basic ass production assistant from a basic ass university to producing a movie that almost grossed a billion dollars. A movie that had Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones do the soundtrack.

The first movie she executive produced was fucking Gremlins. She went from producing ET in 1982. Gremlins came out in 1984.

That's called having infrastructure.

That's called having people that look like you not having to be the talent and management because you got enough motherfuckers that just wanna be behind the camera. You have enough people that has time to teach you how to do your job, instead of doing the jobs of 3 people half-assed and off of talent alone. You get to learn from actual experts. She learned from fucking Stephen Spielberg.

She is worth 300 million dollars and all she does is produce movies. She doesn't act, she doesn't direct, she doesn't write, she just tells people what to do.

She didn't have to be desperate trying to make it. She was able to gradually progress into a job, find a mentor, build social capital like normal people do.

And I bet all her lead actresses are getting paid what they feel like they are worth because she doesn't have to scrape and claw for every penny because the stories she tell are actually valued by people outside of her race and nationality.

Lol, but like I said, motherfuckers don't wanna build infrastructure for their lavish dreams to take off, they just wanna do some shit and wonder why they never get the same out of their labor as other races lol.

It makes sense that Atlanta took off and inspired knockoffs like Reservation Dogs and Dave despite Donald Glover having to act, direct, showrun and write. He went to college, did sketch comedy, did Community, did stand-up, been in White spaces all of his life, so he understood the value of having fucking infrastructure when got his chance. He hired an all writing Black staff, gave people chances, didn't hog any credit. You know, regular ass shit.

And people know Atlanta was actually good because most of the writers on that show went on to do other shows and projects with acclaim lol. Ain't nobody leaving a damn Tyler Perry Show to do shit but work on some shit that is going straight to Tubi or BET+

Thats how it is when you work for somebody else though. They decide what you are worth. SAS demanded more money whwn his contract ends, but that does not mean the network thinks he is worth it. Its one reason why people should find something they can do for themselves and invest their money. Those old ways of living off a job and making it are dead in this country.

My sister owns two Daycare centers now and just had a brand new house built. My aunt has her business and bought a new house. My cousin still doing her business.

I am looking at starting my cleaning business or something else.
