OPINION Is Marvel's Black Panther movie really a "special moment" for Black America??

Don't you see how you're writing a different movie in your head than the movie you actually saw?

Yes, his position was informed by his experience, as all of ours are. But nowhere in the movie is it even implied that he was a product of pure rage, emotion, or revenge. The vast majority of moviegoers were able to understand that his motivations were not entirely selfish but you keep suggesting that his aspirations of arming the oppressed were inconsequential when the film's conclusion itself proves you wrong.

T'Challa recognized the truth in Killmonger's position and altered his foreign policy to account for it.

Btw 2 things:

1. You said he didn't want what's best for Wakanda when he specifically said the sun will never set on the Wakandan empire.
2. His plan didn' t fail because it never got a chance to fail. There was an insurrection against him and they stopped him before he was even able to get the weapons past the border.

Bruh the nigga said he been waiting since he was a kid to kill T'Challa and get revenge for his father and take over Wakanda. The whole helping other oppressed people aspect was secondary. So was it 100% selfish? No. Was it 98% selfish? Yes. His main goal first and foremost was revenge. That's not writing a different movie that's me directly quoting the character. And again the nigga destroyed the field used to create and keep the BP legacy going..so who was going to rule this empire once he was gone? Also you still haven't addressed what would make oppressed people all over all of a sudden want to be under Wakandan rule if they are now liberated themselves? Why go right under another dictator type of living?

I am because I can see the "why" aspect of how peopl3 connect with Killmonger and would even agree with him on some things and I even agree he wasn't wrong for feeling how he felt...but he also had major holes in his plan and execution that are easy to point out as well.
You assume he was just a brute on some “kill whitey” shit. Dude been training, planning and preparing for years so why would you think he’d be so 1 dimensional?

He was on some kill everybody shit...and that type of vengeance based motivation rarely if ever works long term because emotions cloud your thinking and judgement. He said his plan was to take over Wakanda then arm oppressed people all over and create a global Wakanda empire...cool. Now how do keep others from rebelling against you? Think they just will magically fall in line? Think nobody will challenge you? Shit the women guards rose up agaisnt this nigga within days and was fighting against him. Other Wakandans fighting against him. If the very people he was directly ruling over weren't behind him then w hats to say the rest of the people he "liberated" wouldn't too?

This is not entirely true. He was on some kill everybody shit to those that oppose him. Based on what he wanted to do he had to be aggressive. How else do you expect him to overthrow an established power? The women turned on him once they saw that T’Challa was alive, and he technically was still the king since he neither died or submitted. Who will be challenging him or trying to rebel?

They was never behind him 100%. They went along because of the title not because they actually fucked with him. When you're a ruler that makes a huge difference and is why even with T'Challa presumed dead you could see the trepidation when following the orders Killmonger gave out. They wasn't all gung ho behind his plan. You heard Okoye say it...she was loyal to the throne so she was going to follow regardless but as soon as she saw an out to go against Killmonger she took it even if it meant going against the love of her life and threatening to kill him.

Shadow and Act has confirmed that Lupita Nyong’o and Viola Davis will star in an exciting new project exploring the true story behind the Panther’s female fighting force, the Dora Milaje.

The film, entitled The Woman King, is based on an extraordinary mother-daughter story acquired by TriStar. “There’s no one more extraordinary than Viola Davis and Lupita Nyong’o to bring them to life,” said Hannah Minghella, president of TriStar Pictures, in a statement.space“>

The film will tell the story of the Kingdom of Dahomey, the kingdom that reportedly inspired Christopher Priest — the first Black comic book writer for Black Panther—to create King T’Challa’s fierce female army.

According to Shadow and Act:

The film is inspired by true events in the Kingdom of Dahomey, a powerful state in 18th century. It will tell the story of Nanisca (Davis), general of the all-female military unit known as the Amazons, and her daughter Nawi (Nyong’o), who together fought the French and neighboring tribes who violated their honor, enslaved their people, and threatened to destroy everything they’ve lived for.

“The Woman King has the potential to be a game changer for women of color everywhere,” Tennon told Shadow and Act. “The Woman King will tell one of history’s greatest forgotten stories from the real world in which we live, where an army of African warrior women staved off slavery, colonialism and inter-tribal warfare to unify a nation.”[/QUOTE]
