OPINION Is Marvel's Black Panther movie really a "special moment" for Black America??

lol, fucking exactly.....but aaron mcgruder is a fucking genius, he woulda took the same shit i said and made it understandable and fuckig hilarious at the same time, without even pissing that many people off....
The same people disagreeing with you would all of sudden change their tune or all of a sudden “understand”.

This sounds stupid. Try rationalizing to a Jew that they wanted to learn more about their Jewish heritage because they saw Inglorious Basterds. It looks dumb as fuck and that’s something anyone should be keeping to themselves. This speaks more about the person and who raised them than anything.

Nah... we aint about to compare Jewish folks to what African Americans went through. Jews didn't have their history, their names and culture STOLEN from them

This does not work with me. Either debate me based on what I said or don’t respond to me.

A dirty water glass can get me sick tho. Thus the water dirty
naw, i said the water was good....

keep up.....

it's just a matter of presentation, and where it's coming from

if the water is good does it really matter who give it you? or how they give it to you. or even if they respect you. they just know this is water you need, and you gonna take it however they give it to you.....

so by making this movie, are we stealing it right back from them?

cuz it looks familiar, but i have my doubts..i ain't seent no evidence of wakanda really existing... but a lotta these niggaz saying this the real deal....

Show me where the Jews were systematically led to believe that Jewish history consisted of nothing but the Holocaust. That didn't happen, but we absolutely were conditioned to believe that our history basically began with slavery. You're basically shitting on black parents for not raising their kids to understand how rich African history is, when most of those black parents don't even understand how rich African history is. People have to stop making these silly comparisons between what blacks do and what other groups have done as if our experiences are the same. Go ask the average African American to name 5 black African empires. If even one or two can name something other than Egypt, you'd be doing good. There are a lot of African Americans, who don't even realize that African powers rivaled European powers well into the Middle Ages and beyond. If this movie prompts those people to go explore, and then those people learn and begin to pass that knowledge on going forward, you're a fool if you think that is anything other than a good thing.

i'm pretty sure black folk never forgot we ain't from this shit...

like no one thinks white folk just grew niggaz in their back yard...

we all know we came over here, we always know we were taken from the mother land,...

now being able to trace your blood to a specific country or tribe may be new, but that's only cuz technology is available....

but black folk were never taught they didn't come from africa...

Yup. You definitely just jumped in without understanding the context of my argument and if you did understand and this is still your argument then you’re either trolling or is stupid. Ain’t no in between.

For the people downplaying the impact of Black Panther, what will you tell your kid when they ask about Africa because they watched Black Panther? You just going to dismiss them because the inspiration for the question came from a comic book movie?

I took this as an opportunity to teach my kids some of the subtleties of black history in America. How Black Panther pushed back against those things we were taught to be ashamed of (natural hair, black physical features, African influence in clothing, etc.). Also to speak on how we've been cut off from our culture unlike other cultures of the world, and how the Killmonger narrative speaks to that.

They've known but there's always an opportunity to reinforce learning.

And for those that spoke about other black movies being of historical narratives, that's precisely why they're always so negative. Even when we overcome it's from such a bad place (slavery, racism, etc.). I'm personally getting tired of being told over and over that we had it so bad. I get it, we were slaves that went through horrible atrocities. But now we're strong! Let's see some strength!

Who the fuck wants to keep reliving shit like that over and over again?!

I hope Black Panther sparks movies about African and Egyptian empires showing us from a place of strength and pride the entire movie!

If I'm dying of thirst I'm taking the toilet water, figuring out how to get stronger, and put myself in a place where I don't need to drink from the toilet again.

Yo ass would lay there and die because of where the water came from, leaving your family fatherless.

Mission Complete.

I have successfully watched Black Panther 3 times and even managed to get a like from Coogler because I asked for my InstaFam to DM me a picture with their Black Panther movie tickets along with their number and I would call them and thank them personally.

I'll say this... people are.... "interesting".
