I lost my card and had to order a new one, only to find the old card three seconds after the new one arrived.
Sounds like my wife and her metro card (N.Y. people). She literally buys a new one at least once a month and will find the old one within the next 24 hours.
My best friend loses a card a week.
With th new feature of putting it on hold rather than reporting lost they/you can.
