Power writers are definitely lazy but Kanan is dead and it would literally serve no purpose for him to be Cane's father other than fan service.

He wore those stupid ass bright green shoes, stood like a statue looking directly at Tariq, and then proceeded to chase him through the halls.
Tariq would've been better off yelling in the middle of a crowd

Instead he runs to a place where no one could help him, no gun or knife on him, and no idea what this dude is about.

He appeared because Tariq had vivid memories of him.
Even if Latino-dad isn't is father, Cane clearly has no memory of Kanan whatsoever and views the guy as his dad. They have genuine father-son chemistry. The Kanan thing cheapens that for no reason other than to say "...and now for a 50 Cent cameo".

I've seen it happen up close. Shit's nasty and alot messier than tv could ever display. At the end of the day, it's usually still full grown adults fucking 19-20 year olds.
This was a good episode I was rolling when Cain got the text of the dead dude in the pool.
