Also, after listening to the clip his (kinda) exact words were "if someone's coming at you, instead of being trained to shoot to kill.. shoot them in the leg". And further than that he was ultimately saying that most of these calls you need people trained to deal with mental illness to handle these calls and not armed police.

But if my unarmed family member or friend was having a psychotic episode I would definitely prefer them to be shot at in the leg area than their central body mass if they gotta get shot at all. Especially if either way whoever shot them is going to just get away with it because that's what they were trained to do.
