How could things they say otherwise say different when they've flat out said "We don't have an open marriage"? And the separated story is being rejected because people want a sensationalized version of shit instead of accepting the possibility that their relationship is like many and that when people separate sometimes one or both people date/sleep with other people in the interim before deciding whether or not to get back together. It's really not that uncommon but because people have put the Smith's as "relationship goals" they refuse to believe they have normal problems just like any other marriage
